Battery or alternator

Hi all.
Anybody know a way of checking whether it's the battery or alternator that is faulty on my Brava.
I have to keep charging up the battery every week or so or the starter motor will eventually fail to spin. The car normally starts ok when warm but cold starts have the starter motor spinning slowly before the engin fires up.
The battery is the Fiat original & the car is a January-2000 1.2, I only have a multimeter as a checking device.

Check the voltage when the engine is running, 13.8 to 14.0V is correct.

Most likely your battery is dead, if you discharge them too many times they won't hold charge anymore.
