Need a new backbox ( old one rusty ) section of the exhaust system.

Kwik Fit said that I have to replace the backbox and middle section as it is one piece and will cost me 240.00 !

It is the original exhaust still on the car.

Is this correct, or can I have only the back part replaced, and what should this cost me.

Thanks for any advice !

Back box and centre section are two different parts..if its only the back box gone you do not need to replace the middle section as well..

This is why they are called quick sh*t

Yeah, I remember a backbox and middle section costing something like £160 for my old Mk2 Punto. They didn't even fit it right, knocked against the side. Took it to my Fiat dealership and they fixed it free of charge thinking they'd been the one's that fitted it :D

Best thing to do is ask a few local black cabbies where they get their cars serviced etc, they all tend to find the most cost effective places, and then get them to give you a quote!

I have been using the same back street guy for ages, hes got all the computers and is an ex-machinist by trade so can skim heads or rebuild gearboxes etc himself. Has saved me a shed load of cash over the years AND hes very very good! Even offered to lend me his tow-van when my last car died as i desperately needed something to get to work and back in!

Exhausts aren't hard to fit however and like said above you can get the bits cheap if you go to a big shed or likes of German Swedish French (dont knwo the italian alternative). Crap-fit are takin the mickey!

My back box has been rusty on the outer skin for 5 years. Still is rusty on the outer skin. It's still the original 2002 back box. There's a message there:)

Seems to me that whatever Kwikfit have a surplus of on the shelves, they find your car really needs. Discs, pads, shock absorbers, exhausts and of course they're "Doing a special deal on those at the moment"

Yeah, they take a leaf out of the dealer's handbook on those points. Apart from there being a special on of course ;)

My backbox is rusty on the outside, but I think I'm just looking for excuses to replace it with something more sporting and perhaps better performance wise :D

Want to hear something shocking

They did quote me £107 for the backbox alone part and fitted, but when I said okay they said they have to replace the middle section as well as you have to always replace both on a stilo as it is one piece.

When I asked why they could then do a seperated quote for the backbox alone, they could not answer me.

Who would you recommend for tyres then.

Kwik fit prices on the tyres was quite good

These days I rarely use places like quick fit for tyres and buy ours online from here..

http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?dsco=110&cart_id=10365431.110.1208&s_p=Tyres

Their prices are good and they have a good selection customer service is excellent..ok you have to get them fitted by your friendly tyre company but I dont have a problem finding someone to do it ..mine does it for £10 a corner inc balancing..(y)

That's an interesting way of giving information to a customer. Wonder if trading standards would be interested in them giving out wrong information to essentially get more money from a customer

Tyres wise, Kwik Fit are about the same price as a main dealer in my experience. Unless you take advantage of one of their offers of course. They do sometimes do multi-purchase deal things after all. Been recommended... http://www.blackcircles.com/ ...by a mate. The range available online is rather good and price wise, they seem pretty decent (y)

Personally speaking, although I need to replace one of my rear tyres fairly soon, I wasn't looking to replace my tyres till I get new alloys. Given the deals you can get on eBay with new alloy/tyre combo's, it makes so much more sense in my opinion just to sell your old alloys and get a set of those :chin:
