Does anyone know if the back bushes for the rear radius arm on a MK1 Punto (98) can be bought separately? I have been told that they may come as a complete kit.

You can always buy one spare at Fiat. I'd recommend buying a nylon bush from external companies.

Do not use powerflex as they transfer the vibration to other components causing catastrpohic failure further up - this was a major cause of Jaguar suspension failures and how it came to light.

The rear radius arms come as one piece (£60) and can be fitted in under an hour.

Alfanige is right, all these uprated bushes are so hard that they don't do the job you buy them for, if you fitted engine mounts you would take them off in under a week!

Rally cars use them but its so rattly and noisy anyway they dont care.

It's up to you though.

Comparing to the cost of 40 litre fuel tank without the pump (for the Uno) this must be cheap. The tank at Fiat cost 450£. I don't dare to guess the price of a rear radius arm at Fiat over here. I got a tank from the scrapyard for 45£, and that's a good deal in Norway.

Anyway, the guys at my local Fiat dealer's told me not to buy their bushes, but rather go for powerflex. So Nizahn, it's really up to you.

It's fairly easy to see that the radius arm at ebay don't match the size of the ricambi-box. Just beware, but I think it looks alright. It's ofcourse important that the necessary bushes are provided.

Thanks for the help chaps!

Anything is better than what I have now....the bushes have disintegrated. Until I discovered the problem I was looking in the boot thinking that I had left a wrench in the spare wheel well!

Seriously do NOT buy powerflex bushes for a 10 year old road car. What happens is the vibration and flex are transfered to components further up the suspension chain. This means you 10 year old welds, which may have a small element of wear/corrosion in them take all the hit of this flex and of course do not stand up to it.

I learnt about this two years ago from the Jaguar Drivers Club after a bad accident occured to an XJS owner. During the investigation it was found that they had installed powerflex bushes. Other cars were then checked and found to have similar cracks/stresses not found on cars with OE bushes. This was also found when comparing other makes of cars too.

Powerflex bushes are very good, I am not saying they arent, but you need ot have them in the right application, i.e. a fully strengthened track car or where you are inspecting the vehicle on a regular basis.

Also, these arms on the Punto are not designed to have the bushes replaces, thats why they give you the whole unit. And for £56 inc VAT and a 60 minute job instead of a £30 bush then 3 hours of struggle...

I presume the price of 56£ is to be payed at a Fiat store...less at a generic spare parts shop! Then, I agree it would be difficult to replace the bushes, but the expense is less than the half for the complete arm!
