They didn't stop making them due to being crap, in fact it's an engine that as a whole is very solid and reliable, they stopped making it due to emissions etc and euro 5 regs.

Tbh what 'engine' specific issues have 1.9 owners had? I haven't seen many on OEM models, and normally seems to be gearbox issues from what I've seen.

An engine itself rarely breaks, all the parts around it do, but im classing it as tht 1.9 (model) engine, components , however you wish to class it was pants

I agree with much of your post however the turbo petrols, T-jet and later Multiair are at least as reliable as any of the others.

From 2009 onwards the 1.4 16v was only available in GP trim and the T-jet was only in Sporting.

Even better then (y) I wish I'd bought an Eleganza to be honest

I think I misphrased that - I've never heard of any major (or even minor, actually) issues with T-Jet or Multiair Turbo engines, but there is more 'to go wrong' than there is on a naturally-aspirated engine, if you get my drift :)

I wouldn't say it's well built to be honest..

I had numerous trim issues such as the well known saggy glove box, I'll fitting trim round the radio and climate, broken cubby hole on the right by the steering wheel, rattle from the dash on the left side I couldn't eradicate.

I bought a 2008 1.4 8v Eleganza in April this year, and I absolutely love it! Even compared to the much more modern hatches, the Punto is still by far the best looking, and the only car in the class I'd buy. (If I could afford a brand new car, that is!!) I love its sheer style, inside and out, the kit is superb, the sound system is good, and it's great to drive. This Eleganza is my 2nd Fiat, and I hope to carry on driving Fiats for as long as possible! :D

I suppose they're not perfect, but I wouldn't call them badly built. Besides, all of those sound like fairly simple fixes: the glovebox needs a pin alignment; the trim fascia needs refitting, as does the cubby hole; the rattle was probably a worn heater motor, and they're cheap as chips.

I'd wanted a Grande Punto ever since it was launched, lol! I never expected to get 1 as nice as I did though! :D

New r 300ps

Should of gone for new S3 with the 5cylinder turbo, totally outstanding engine based on the old S1/S2 groupe B cars, even matched the firing order to make it sound the same, I would but 32k second hand at the minuet :(

What audi should of done is keep the 4 in the RS3 the 5in RS4 and the 8 in the rest . . But not gonna complain, considering they've squeezed the 4 cylinder into the new S1
My god audi's got a lot going on :D
Just price :(
Hottest hatch to date in my opinion :D
230bhp Quattro in a punto size car

According to JD survey UK buyers dubbed the GP among the 10 least satisfying to own and to avoid like the plague......

Fiat Grande Punto

"We can only assume that Fiat customers were initially very pleased with their purchase until they hopped in a friend's Ford Fiesta and completely regretted shelling out for the Italian hatchback. It's lack of onboard tech and lifeless driving experience sent it straight to the bottom of the pile."

citroen c1, smart fortwo, ford fusion, citroen c4, ford ka (fiat chassis/engine), bmw x1, citroen c3, alfa mito (fiat chassis/engine), chevolet spark, grande punto.

Oh dear:(

I learned how to drive in a Diesel 2010 Ford Fiesta 1.4l and a Petrol 1997 Ford KA 1.3l and owned two MK2 Renault Clios (2000-1.4 & 1999-1.2). I then went on to pass my test in a Petrol 2015 Ford Fiesta 1.0l EcoBoost and have not one aspiration of owning or buying any of these cars and have no regrets about buying my fabulous 2007 1.4l GP.

I have been in a Vauxhall VXR Corsa Nurburgring Edition, and a Ford Fiesta Zetec, and I can honestly say that these cars have not sent my GP to the bottom of the pile... (However I will be buying an AGP next December so that I can keep up.)

That article is a load of ****.
