i went to replace my ariel today tried to unscrew the old one - but the ariel was pretty stiff and the part the ariel screws into has been broken (not by me!!) how much does that part cost? if anyone knows! - also the ariel isnt very good at satying up - if i just buy the lower part of the actual ariel will that solve it?
cheers in advance

ps that probably makes no sense!

Hello mate.

You'll need the whole unit. The aerials are prone to snapping and do so quite often. Shouldn't cost more than about £20 even from FIAT and are dead easy to change.

Re: Re: ariel part

Another idea. Just trawl the scrappys for one and take it off a wrecker. I doubt the scrappy will even bother to charge you for it. Just take a screwdriver with you to take off the base plate and grease it up before you put it on. Less likely it'll break in future then.

Re: Re: Re: ariel part

so i definately need the baseplate to solve the on staying up problem? - or is it i just need a new aerial? and fix that one to my base? as it appears my current one the screw that fits to the plastic is not now doing its job as the plastic has broken or something?

Re: Re: Re: Re: ariel part

You'll need both the sticky-up bit and the blacky-dome bit that are both on the outside of the car. The bit that you unscrew will have broken in half as they all do (mine was broken when I bought it and had exactly the same problem on my Punto).

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ariel part

Why not just buy a replacement from say Halfords ? Thats another option. Not as cheap as from a breaker, but cheaper than the original one.

Mine got vandalised one evening, but a general roof mount aerial unit fitted straight on in place of the whole original. I didn't need to replace the aerial cable. Its not as long as the original, but I've not really noticed a reduction in radio performance. But it has a rubber seal, instead of the stupid Fiat plastic method. So will keep the water out for longer ! Plus when it comes to car washes, it has a flexible front section which is easy to bend down. The Fiat one was awkward when it came to doing that.
