Looking for a decent head unit/cd changer setup about £250 max.
Would consider an MP3 player too.
Quite like Kenwood, but has anyone got any recommendations?

If it's any help, I've got Kenwood 6x9's on the back shelf, and Kenwood 10cm's in the dash. No amps or sub, but might buy one later so a pre-out would be nice (I think?)

Pioneer are king of headunits!
I have a top of the range Pioneer, and earlier this week bought a better spec'd Alpine, but took it back a few days later because it really wasn't as good or as nice to use.
Theres a new range of Pioneer stuff out his week and I can't recommend it highly enough.
Take a look at the DEH-P6500R for £199. although it doesn't play MP3's or the older DEH-P7400R for £249.99 which does.

Forgot to mention, please, please avoid kenwood headunits!
Quite possibly the most un-ergonomic piece of technology in the world.
They've got lots of menus and sub-menus and require a degree to set them up properly.
They can make some really good speakers (love the dual-mags) but thats all.

Si,
You think this MCD 6020 RDS package is worth it? It's the hot favourite so far.

Thanks for the help.

I've got the 7400 and a fantastic unit it is too :D, would most definately recommend it.

Be careful though, it had more than enough power to blow my front speakers! ;)[xx(];)

Hi Pete,

Yep that looks like a good price, the headunit alone is about £160. and to buy a seperate changer your looking at £100.
It's a high spec headunit with loads of features that'll allow you to expand the system in the future if you want to.
One thing to watch out for though.
Pioneer are currently updating their range of headunits (though it only seems to be a cosmetic change-different faceplates) so you might be able to find this unit cheaper if you shop around.
Perhaps also try: www.letsbuycaraudio.com or

Thanks all - got the one mentioned above for £225 delivered, from www.bassjunkies.com. Fitted it yesterday, worked late into the night as I have to work on 2 other cars today (Just too helpful for my own good ;) ) It's awesome - I was gonna buy a subwoofer to go with it, but with my Kenwood 6907's on the back shelf it has enough bass to shatter kidney stones without the sub!!

The clarity is thre right up at volumes so loud you have to shout to hear yourself too - Audioslave sounded superb last night while driving around at 11.30, probably wouldn't even be quite so loud if you saw them live :D
