Hi guys how you doin? i have a question to see and get an opinion from people from various countries on warranty issues. i asked my local garage if i put a performance airfilter like a k&n to fit insede the stahdard fiat stilo factory filter box and they said it voids the warranty concerning the intake system (like the oxygen sensor) and also if i wanted to put a pipe on again they said any changes on the car affect the warranty on the affected area example pipe=exhaust system. i dunno this sounds like bull i mean if you use same filter box but change the filter inside i dont think it should be a problem and also how can a different pipe affect the car? its in rough terms just a pipe to deliver the exhaust away from the engine.

K&N voids warranty unless it's accepted by Fiat as a replacement filter, which I doubt. What would you expect to gain by replacing it anyway? You could of course switch back the original filter every time you take the car to the dealer. "Free-flow"-filters might allow bigger particles to pass through them.

If you replace the exhaust to a better flowing one, it changes the gas flows of the entire engine, including intake. The computer should be able to adapt to it but I can understand why the warranty is void if you do it.

Does it really matter if you have 100hp, or 102hp with twice the noise? :D

Sory but I'm gonna have to be blunt...........It is a load of bull.
The air filter will not affect your warranty in anyway, if the dealer says this then just ask to see where the paper work is to say you HAVE TO USE A CERTAIN TYPE OF FILTER. No where in the manual or paper work does it say you have to use a fiat or fiat recognised air filter. If you read the bumf on the www.knfilters.com website or here www.knfilters.com/faq.htm#15.

Sorry to be blunt but here is the written down truth.

See ya all later

I would be surprised if the manufacturers warranty did not include a catch all that stated that either authorised parts should be used or that replacement parts should be to Fiat spec. If there is a fault that can be pinned down or related to an out of spec component you would find it very difficult to get any UK court to agree with you. Federal Law is often completely different to UK law.

If you fit a performance air filter just keep the original handy for visits to the dealer.

I, unfortunately, agree.

I am sure the warranty will be voided if non-authorised parts or servicing are used/performed on a vehicle.

If you fit an aftermarket (non-Fiat) part that doesn't meet the original design specification and that results in the failure of a system or system connected to it, then why should Fiat pay for the repair? I agree it is restrictive, but somewhat understandable.

If you fit a 100W bulb to a lamp that specifies a maximum 60W, because you want more performance (light) and then the shade burns, would you expect the manufacturer of the lamp to make a repair/replacement?
