with the current UK weather, COLD
it's the one time a year your Vehicles Antifreeze get pushed to it's limits.
IF you've , had a minor leak and been topping up with tap water...
bought a car with little service history
spend 10 minutes to;
1, check the coolant level,
2, check the antifreeze strength
if you think it's weak..or dirty,
you can either
use a Syringe ( turkey baster) to remove @ 1 litre of coolant, and top-up with NEAT ( concentrate) antifreeze,
it'll soon mix as the vehicle pumps it around.
IF it's filthy / contaminated,
drain / flush / refill with new Antifreeze at the correct strength ratio for the expected conditions ( -5'C for inner city / garaged)
(-20'C for exposed outdoors use)
