i was talking to the local tuning guru about fitting a dump valve to the JTD and he said that he woul never reccomend fitting one to a diesel, cos it shags the engine can anyone shed some light??

I asked about one being put in my last car which was a 2.0tdi Rover. I was told this couldnt be done!

Would be interested in the responses you get.

that makes absolute no sense to me... did he say anything othr then that???

since rebuilding 2 hgts i have learnt alot about how the work (car in general) and i notice that alot of people say ******** like this because they can not do it..

e.g. if he can not do it he will say its ****, becasue if he said it was amazing you would go else were to get it fitted and while you are getting that fitted you might get other bits and boobs done, which means he will lose out on that custum...you have to watch what people say, they normaly say one thing to convince you on something else...

like with the cams i was going to fit, i have spoken to loads of ppl, each had a different oppinion...but the overal view was that a coupe lump makes much more sense. if i didnt make those calls, i would have already fitted a set of cams totaling nearly 1k!!!

There is a Pug 306 that drives round my local town in a burnt orange colour. It been like it is now for a about 2 - 3 years.

This has a dump valve on it. Also think he has a bigger turbo too cos f**k me it shifts.

I have never seen anything shift like that, it would blitz most cars including scoobies.

To me, it seems that he has never had a problem, otherwise it wouldn't be on. He has spent alot of money, to say I know the previous owner and it was original when she sold it.

I have heard before tho, that it has to be a special dump valve made for diesels only, cos of the way the engine runs.

Don't know how true this is

Was that on a diesel car tho? he said something about it cutting off the turbo when at full boost or something, they do sell one but he said that if he did fit it he would not be able to offer a guarantee because they can shag the engines pretty quickly, (circa 5-6 months iirc) would like to know if anyone else could shed any more light?

Yes its a diesel.

1.9 TD on a P plate i believe.

Like I said, The way that thing shifts, he has no problems with his.

It might have to be a special dump valve for a diesel engine but im not sure on that.

yeah it is different, it has a throttle sensor and is electronically controlled, i just thought there must be some convictions to his statement

How can a dump valve cut the turbo off at full boost.

A dump valve is on activated when you release the pedal.

It like a one way valve. It allows pressure to to the turbo to make it spin and realeases the pressure when the turbo doesn't need to spin to stop the negative pressure hitting the turbo

Try This
http://www.smartcar-owner.co.uk/dump_valve.htm

Tells you how a dump valve works. This theory would be exactly the same for a diesel engine.

The only difference is a diesel used low end pressure so need to be different.

It would be impossible for the dump valve to cut of the pressure to the floor while you foot is on the pedal.

Diesels have high end pressure, my Bravo has a switch and soleniod valve to release the pressure and close the valve.

A diesel dump valve does not work like a petrol one.

"It is for a number of reasons. Without a dump valve, when the throttle was closed, the build up of boost pressure would be immense, very similar to closing a quickly flowing water tap."

Diesels do not have a throttle like a petrol car. On a petrol car the throttle is a flap that blocks the inlet and stops air getting past. On a diesel the throttle just makes the injectors squirt more fuel, there is nothing in the airflow.

No throttle blocking the air flow, no pressure buildup. This is why disesl dump valves need the switch to open them.

Also as there is no throttle in the air flow you don't get compressor stall as on a petrol engine, so you don't have to spin up the turbo when you accelerate after changing gear.

Lozz, if you do fit a dump valve to your JTD, would you mind removing any reference to Angel Tuning from your car please.

Cheers

It is highly unlikely that a Peugeot P plater 306 TD even with a bigger turbo, a dump valve, a down hill slope and following wind would ever out run a Scuberoo Impreza. It might get near if towed to top speed by a milk float.

Not that a dump valve actually has any use at all on a diesel.

in reference to the 306 diesel no where near competing with a scooby..

the 306 HDI can be tuned to in excess of 300 bhp in a car that ways less than a scooby so it would have a fairly good chance at beating some of the lower end scooby's. not saying it would beat all scooby's though

show us this pug 306 diesel that is tuned to 300bhp...........engine life measured by the second hand as opposed to a calender. 300 diesel bhps and torque through a front wheel drive car. Allard Turbosport who specialise in tuning Pug diesels for road and race say it is highly unlikely. go visit their website.
