Anyone else have fun with their American hire car? Due the amount of people going I was the driver this time of the "fun bus" which was a 2010 Dodge Caravan SXT

The engine I believe was a 3.8 ( V6 petrol ) and it had 16 inch alloy wheels and this crazy "stow & go" door system :p Which didn't show up on the dash if the door was open or not  Aircon front & rear and cruise control (y)

Plenty of cup holders and did 300 miles to the tank

What has everyone else had whilst on hols in the US?

Couple of Dodge Chargers which I quite liked, 2.7 was gutless, 3.5 was better. Dodge Caravan (older model than yours), 3.8 litre, got 12 MPG out of that one :p.

Couple of Mustangs (both 4 litre V6s), did the west coast in a convertible, and the East Coast in a coupe that had 6 miles on the clock when I picked it up. That was properly run when I took it back..

Had a Chevy Malibu on honeymoon in Hawaii (Oahu) which was no ball of fire but surprisingly pleasant to drive. Rented a Jeep Wrangler on Maui which is one of the grimmest vehicles I've driven in a long time. Couldn't wait to give the keys back on that one..

Cheers,

A gutless 2.7? How do Americans build such crap engines, lol

Think the 2.7 had ~170BHP but it was so heavy it had its own gravity. Dreadful 4 speed auto as well, no fun to drive.

The Mustangs both had the 4.0 V6, which I've learned is a derivative of the "Cologne" engine, used in the Capri/Granada of 1980's vintage. Not powerful either, 210 BHP out of 4 litres. But the Yanks don't drive fast and we weren't in a hurry, so 65 was about as fast as we went.

Yeah i have had a quick go in one of them in the Desert. They are truly awful, mind i dont think ours was the 3.8l. If it was then that really is bad.

Last year they tried giving us a Dodge Caliber thing. That went back the next day due to its extreme crapness. FFS who builds a car now days without Remote Central Locking or Electric windows :bang:
That was exchanged for a Focus estate which was an all round better car.
