After looking for a method to clean the carb, I found a process called soda blasting, so i made a "gun" and a jar of bicarbonate of soda ,an airline and 5 minutes it turned out like this.

Wow that soda blasting is pretty impressive.

I tried a polishing compound block initially as my neighbour had one he said might work, but it was hard work. In the end what worked best was a very fine steel wool soaked in vinegar. I guess slightly more abrasive than the foil mentioned above.

When that didn’t work / it was too pitted, I used a wet and dry 1200 grit sandpaper.

I’m pretty happy with the end results.
Mostly done, much improved, especjally the front wings.

I’ll aim to now wax them with car wax and hope it minimises the oxidation
