A pressure washer IS a bad idea. Sadly, as other Forum members have discovered, there is only one way to get the engine bay really clean, and that is with the engine out, and then attack it with scrapers to get rid of the underseal, and then with a solvent to get rid of the residue. Members who have done this job should be able to advise you as to what works best
pressure washer set to low pressure is OK but, you have to wrap all electrics in cling film, alternator fuse box ecu etc . Spray Gunk over everything you can now see, agitate with a paint brush and rinse off with pressure washer set low. Similar to a standard hose pipe. You DO NOT want to blast water into sensors etc. This will give you 6 out of 10 but as 'the hobbler' says, the only way to really clean the engine bay is to remove the drive train first! Gunk
