Alfa 156 Selespeed

Alfa 156 Selespeed

you dont need to change the gearbox or clutch, they are the same. you need the manual selector, linkages, and then you need to romove the selespeed actuators and pump from the gearbox so you can attach the manual linkages to it. then you need to fit the clutch pedal and its cylinder and plumb it into the existing hydraulics at the point where you remove the selespeed clutch actuator.

remember the selespeed is just the manual with electric gear selectors and clutch control, using hydraulic actuators.

you dont need to replace the rev countner, but it would be a good idea to remove the unused second digital display.

you can leave the rest of the selespeed circuits, such as the door sensor and its wiring, and the selespeed controller ecu and its wiring.

its cheaper and easier to repair the selespeed car, then sell it and buy a manual. you'll be able to repair the selespeed if you go to alfaowner.com and read the threads, there are millions of them but a few of them contain all the info you need.

is there alot of work involved? what it is is that a mate of mine has a selespeed that whenever you switch off the car you can hear a clicking coming from the gearbox and the car stays stuck in gear until you disconnect the battery. The car has been to alfa and he was charged £250 and told if it happened again he would have to go back and they needed to fit some kind of switch that would cost him £750 unfortunately the same day he picked the car up it did the same thing so he was basically shafted out of £250 so was wondering if it would be worth converting to manual?

it is quite a lot of work, but its not too difficult because you're only replicating a manual version, so its not like you have to make things up or do anything new or unknown, you just copy the manual's setup.

tell him to post a thread on alfaowner in the 147/156/159 section, they see that problem 10 times a week, it will be easier to fix the selespeed than convert to manual.
