When I bought my little cinq, it had an Aiwa CT-X319YZ cassette head unit in. Quite simply within about an hour that was out, on the road and my nice shiny new JVC mp3/CD player was in it's place...

Basically, I've recently acquired an mp3 player (Philips HDD) which I want to attach to my car stereo. As times are a little tight (insurance...), I want to temporarily replace the aiwa one in the car, as it has an aux input on the front.

Basically, it does not have the standard plugs on the back, instead, a mass of wires protruding from the case. I have no idea what the wiring colours mean. HELP!

Ok, I'll list the colours

Red
Black
Yellow (this has a 15A Fuse on it)
Blue (this also has a fuse on it)
White
White/ Black Stripe
Grey
Grey/ Black Stripe
Green
Green/ Black Stripe
Purple
Purple/ Black Stripe

Cheers

Red - UNswitched +12v supply for memory backup
Black - Earth
Yellow (this has a 15A Fuse on it) - Main 12v supply - can be switched or unswitched
Blue (this also has a fuse on it) - remote switching output for amp

White - 1st speaker positive
White/ Black Stripe - 1st speaker negative
Grey - 2nd speaker positive
Grey/ Black Stripe - 2nd speaker negative
Green - 3rd speaker positive
Green/ Black Stripe - 3rd speaker negative
Purple - 4th speaker positive
Purple/ Black Stripe - 4th speaker negative

To work out which speaker wire is which, you'll have to hook up each pair of wires in turn to a speaker, and play with the balance and fader controls. i.e. if you set if faded fully to the front and to the left, then the only wire that outputs sound will be one for the front-left speaker.
