right, I went and got Aircrack-ng for my laptop, but after following the instructions I click on Aircrack-ng GUI, and click "Launch Airodump" but it opens a window briefly with what appears to be what its ment to say....), but then closes instantly.

Also tried using the direct Aerodump.exe set as Administrator but it does the same. :confused:

I cant find much help apart from "Use Linux" but I really dont want to do that :(

Im completely new at this, so havent a clue what I'm doing bar follow instuctions, so any ideas?

you can use it in XP. the only problem i found was the fact that you have to sit and wait to collect packets, so it takes ages sometimes, but you can go to work/bed etc and leave it collecting packets.

if it inits and then closes immediately i think it means your wireless card isn't supported or can not be detected, but i didnt have that problem so i cant be sure, sorry.

there isnt much support for windows users, and the forum is a bit leet so they frown on windows users, but i would still try, BUT check all the previous material first as they hate ppl asking questions that have already been answered. register with TAZ and use the tutorials if you want to do it without understanding what you are doing http://www.tazforum.thetazzone.com/viewtopic.php?t=2069

EDIT: i just remembered what you're doing wrong, do not try to start it the way you are currently trying, just open a command prompt and run the exe.

like most things in life, its very easy once you know how.

damn

I thought my card would of been compatible, as its an Atheros, which is one of the ones you choose when you start Airodump.

I did have a look on some help forums, but all i could find was "First, make sure you have downloaded installed the Windows version: http://download.aircrack-ng.org/aircrack-ng-0.9.2-win.zip

Then run Aircrack-ng GUI.exe.

You are likely trying to run the command line versions. You can do this but they must be run from a Windows console window."

which I have done bar running it from the console, as I dont really know how.

EDIT;

I dug a little bit more and have found that the beta doesnt work with Vista, so have now got a older version that was suggested. Appears to load, just got to down load some stuff first

Yes Vista is crap for anything like this.

Also aerodump needs a supported wifi card to work as it uses a modified driver to support raw packet reading.

Unfortunatly the 'Use linux' comes up alot because that is the best way to do it as all wifi card under linux support it. I managed to crack a WPA-PSK key in 22hours under linux :cool: and most WEP keys are cracked within 2-3hours depending on the usage on the AP.
