Hi guys, I have the red and orange airbag warning light up on the dash. Its been on for a while but the orange airbag light indicating the airbag is switched off has been on since I bought the car. The previous owner had to get a new ignition key cut, she changed the drivers door lock, didn't change anything else and then binned the original key so I was unable to turn the airbag back on cos the key didn't fit. She left the airbag switched off which is a real pain. I sourced some new locks and keys from a donor car and changed the airbag switch on the dash. When I switched on the ignition I was able to turn the airbag back on but following switching the ignition off and back on, both orange and red lights have come back on and now won't go off.

I have read a few threads on this and it seems to point to a faulty connection under the passenger seat but having stripped every seat out of the front and taking the original seat covers off to wash them, there was no electrical connection under there.
I just had a look to see if I could find the wire but the only connection to the seats is the electric motor and airbag to the drivers seat.

Its a 2001 X reg 1.9 JTD, is it possible this model doesn't have the seat connection on the passenger seat? I would have thought it should be there cos how would the car detect the passenger is in the seat to activate the airbag?:bang::bang::bang::bang:

It's not that hard to spot, so if you've gone as far as removing the seats and you still haven't found it, makes me wonder if someone hasn't been busy with their wire cutters before you got you bought the car.

Just a note to be careful when making/breaking the connector contacts. It's apparently possible (though I can't quite see how) to trigger an airbag by mucking about with its power connection - if you do find the plug it might be as well to disconnect the battery before any cleaning of contacts.

Search on the floor, left-hand side front, below the left-hand front passenger seat.

Ok Zundapp, I'll take alook as I have to get the CD changer out that's there already so the seat can come out again. The worrying thing is the seat has already been out and there are no cable to the seat at all. The carpet has also been out of the car in its entirety but if I buried the cable under it when I put it back together it would certainly explain a lot.

Thanks for your help.

Regards

Dave

Well Widemouthfrog, it looks like you have given me the answer with the link. I don't have side airbags either so I have no connection under the seat. I have an OBD2 due in the post, hopefully I can turn the warning light off with that. The only cable under the seat is the CD changer.

Thanks for posting that, its helped a lot.

Regards

Dave
