Airbag Fault - Help!

Hi guys

I have a 1996 1.4 sx and my Airbag light will not turn off after the 4 second interval when the engine has started. It just stays on. Can anyone suggest how to solve this without visiting my friendly dealer and re-mortgaging my house??

I think the problem started when I was installing a CD changer, my mate drilled dilled through the boot floor just below the CD cable. He drilled through the wiring loom and nicked a few cables (I know pretty daft for drilling without checking) but anyway when I started the car a few fuses blew including the dash board fuse. After I replaced all of these and sorted the wiring loom the airbag light just would not turn itself off! Does anyone think that the engine as logged some sort of fault code???

Can anyone help out with some suggestions on how to sort this. I was wondering whether the red key could clear it out or if I diconnected the battery for a while it may clear it.

I suppose the last resort is to take it to the dealer but i'm very reluctant.

Airbag Fault

If there is no cable damage, you just go to the authorized Fiat Workshop and ask them to reset the computer. If the problem still presist, than you must have damaged the wiring.

Does anyone know how much a dealer charges to reset the airbag light?

Bravo - Airbag Light

Hi all,

I have a Bravo 100 SX, and I also have the same problem. There are (in general, if the car was not damaged) two ways to fix the airbag light: either to reset the computer, or re-install the "clock spring for airbag", which is a coil of wire mounted bellow the airbag in the steering wheel. Only resetting the computer might not help for long... However, the cost of the first option should be around EUR 50, and of the second around EUR 150.
