What a common cause for the engine to spin over a couple times after killing the ignition?

I've been told maybe:

Carb is dying
Fuel Pump Knackered
Fuel hanging around where its contining to be ignited.

I've changed the Fuel pump but I hear Carbs are damn expensive :( any ideas?

Could also be carbon build up on a high mileage petrol. Diesels, I believe have a solanoid valve to cut off the fuel flow. It this is dicky it could allow the engine to run on. If you have just revved the engine prior to switching off of course it will run on for a bit (not a good idea as the oil pressure drops quickly). As rpaterson says what type of car do you have (petrol, diesel etc)
