Hey All,

I have just joined this forum as you all seem like a helpful lot, reading previous posts :)

Could anyone please help me before I take my Panda off to the garage, will probably get ripped off as being a typical girly I know nothing about cars, I can drive, put tyre pressure in and water and oil that is good enough for me ha ha (not tarnishing all garages just had a few bad experiences)

I purchased a Fiat Panda Active 2007 yesterday from my friend but have noticed a knocking/rubbing noise when I drive.

It drives perfectly and is really nippy, gear change fine etc

Sounds like it is from the front passenger side wheel, it only happens when I start driving and picking up speed, stops when I slow down.

A new part worn tyre has been fitted recently apparently, it does pull slightly to the right when driving. I am going to get tracking done.

The noise is hard to explain as it's not a loud knocking, its more of a rubbing noise when driving.

My ex husband took it for a little drive and said it could be wheel bearing? He wonders if it has been bumped up a curb.

It had a new coil fitted for its MOT back in March and has been sitting in a yard not driven for last few months.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? Can anyone shed some light on it before I take it to a garage.

Thank you so much in advance :)

Can often be something as simple as a rusty/seized brake disc, which can wear off.

Does the noise disappear when you lightly apply the brake?

Is the noise worse on cornering?

Whilst you're having the tracking done they can 'shake' your wheel to see if it's the wheel bearing.

Thank you AB100

I have just taken it for a drive, long drive and the only way I can describe the noise is like it has a flat tyre (all tyres are fine, need to go check pressure as it has been sitting in her brother's yard for a few months, but they look fine and not flat, also he apparently had a part worn tyre fitted recently as it had a slow puncture and that is the wheel where the noise sounds like it's coming from)

It's not an actual knocking noise just a continuous flapping like sound, such a hard sound to explain. The only way I can think of is if you had a flat tyre on a bike or car and as the wheel goes around it makes the noise as if going over bumps or a grid. Its not excessive noise but you can hear it and I know something is not right. It stops as soon as I brake and slow down. It seems to get louder with speed and acceleration, its only a 1.1 so not racing is ha ha

I will go get the tracking done as the steering wheels does not seem to sit straight and it does pull to the left slightly. I will ask them if she can shake the wheel too.

Thank you, I really appreciate your help.

The brakes are quite spongy, but then I only got the car yesterday and not use to driving it so it could be I just need to push harder than my old car or I am being a girly driving it.

My friend recently had it MOT'd and is passed apart from it had to have new coils fitted.

The noise quitens a bit on cornering as I normally change down gear and slow down, its more when driving at a continuous speed.

Hope that makes sense :)

It could be many things to be honest but whilst you're at the tyre garage get them to have a quick look and spin the wheel whilst it's off the floor - check brake discs, bearing and drive shaft.

For the record, I would rather shove wasps up my a** than have part worn tyres on my car - specially the skinny ones on the 1.1 model!

ha ha, I think I will get the tyre changed to a new one.

Didn't expect to spending out on it after buying it yesterday lol.

Thank you for your advice.
