I have BT as my broadband provider, and 3 months ago the adsl connection would drop out 10 - 15 times a day, numerous calls to BT and i now use the test junction located behind the first BT box in the house, this proves to work. However, the adsl still drops out, sometimes the internet symbol remains, sometimes it doesnt. I can connect to the wireless aspect fine, but the adsl connection is a real nightmare. I have tried several different adsl cables, ethernet cable directly to router, several microfilters also tried my other router, but no success. When i tried today, the internet light was showing and the computer had connected to the wireless and it had aqcuired the IP address but i still had to trset the router to connect.

Router currently used is a netgear DG834GT, was fine for a couple of months but now drops out at least twice a day. Also when sending receiving files on msn these are shockingly slow to send/receive, takes ages for files even a few kb in size to be sent.

What do you guys reckin i should do?

Cheers

unfortunatly from what i've heard from me and a couple of my friends, this is the problem with netgear...

mine (although a cable router) will give be about 2 hours of connection befdore it cuts out...
i've now put a cable through the wall to make sure i have a connection

Hmm, it also happend sometimes with my ancient e-tech router too, so was thinking it maybe the adsl connection. Whel i last had contact with BT they did a line test and said the line came back as busy, then left me a message a few days later to say the had fixed the line, but even then adsl kept dropping out. Can anyone reccomend a decent wireless router then, i cant have wired as my psp, 360 and 2 laptops and home computer are all wireless, my fiancee wil not allow a wired router! Will have to get a bt engineer out in think (i know they will charge me for it), but 5 weeks ago (last time i spoke to BT), they saud they would phone me in 2 days to arrange an engineer visit, What sort of rates do they charge?

This is still happening, and i am currently having to use someone elses unsecured wireless network just to type this. When the connection drops the internet symbol normally stays lit, on the router, indicating an adsl connection, it even drops out while im using it (so not as if it is after a period if non use). It has now dropped out 5 times in less then an hour. When it does drop out, i check connectivity using msn messenger troubleshooter and xbox live trouble shooter, the msn ts comes back with dns error and key ports error, while the 360 comes back with dns error, never seems to be the ip address causing trouble. What could be causing this dns error?

Mina again dropped out 4 times while trying to access this forum aaarrrggghhh. What other brands of router do you reccomend, as i have decided i havehad enough with this one. I still dont know if it is the router causing the problems or the ISP. Until this evening this router was within a fe cm of a cordless phone, with another handset in another room, could these be causing interference? I have moved the router about 1.5 meteres away, but will it still be having an effect? Im going to try the other router AGAIN and see if this is any betterm but it doesnt seem to be.

Cheers
