Right i thought - the LED Strip Lights are become the fashion, and i've seen quiet a few around

i thought Where i have my nostrils on side of the front bumper (standard Bumpers) there are a 12cm space

was thinking of putting something like this in them

Got 2 questions

1. Would this be legal to drive around with switched on?

2. Where could i get power from?
- battery would be too many amps?
- and Putting the Neg on the Steering coloum Bolts to earth (to make the circuit) be a bad idea?
- Wiring them actually into the side lights? Again would this draw to much?

Any help would be appreciated

hi mate not sure if its legal but audi's have day time running lights so i dont know
also with wiring them im sure u could just take the wires from the battery and use a resister ( i think thats what it called ) to lower the amps down to run led lights

You can put the led strip wires straight onto the battery terminals and it will be fine they are low power consumtion will be fine.

Or wire to sidelights that will be fine aswel, i dnt think youl get pulled cos yeah audi have them as sidelights, like beamers have angel eyes.

I dont even get pulled driving at night with all my neons on so youll be fine mate

Depends entirely on the cop, I got a 3rd brake light cover that some ****'s would pull for whereas others wouldn't care less.
I've seen a few cars with them (don't like them myself) but don't see why you'd get pulled. although one of my dad's friends got pulled for having a reg plate with a man city emblem on it! Must have been a united fan! :p
Told to get new plates

So they'll have to wired into the side lights then?

I know i'd have to have side lights on as well as the Led Strips

But still wondering if i'd get pulled
Ziggy

not to sure dont know alot about this

the best way is to wire it into the sidelights

i think that will give you a lightbulb warning on the dash and then to sort that you have to put a resistor in the wire before you splice it to the sidelights

or something like that, thats just information i remember reading on the forum somewhere could well be wrong

Itll be easier to wire to sidelight cos otherwise ul be trailing wires into the passenger footwel to attach a switch to turn them on and off keep it simple and dnt think youl get pulled mate as long as there white leds and there not blinding people you should be fine mate

Yes, cause i upgraded my dash to the Active Version
i've got a bulb indicator, and yea that was a worry, as slight voltage upsets bring it on, very irritating IMO

The Legal Side tho is the first thing tho, in thoery yes, the shud be fine they aint blinding anybody, but they aint 'E' marked so they might not be

E marked is a mark of quality product not if its legal i dnt think, like coil springs that are quality approved are TUV approved.

E marked just means they are made to quality.

If you do get pulled just make sure you always carry a sawn off up your sleeve! They won't argue with that! :p
Might have other things to worry about but they'll stop caring about you lights! (y)

i think for them to be legal they have to be run in conjunction with the sidelights

To be legal they firstly need to be 'E' marked.

They also have to be mounted in conjuction to the vehicle lighting regulations.

TBH your better of getting a DRL system specifically designed for the job. I see so many of these 'bendy' LED set-up's, and 90% are just laughable at the light out put and quality of install.

Get either of these;

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...uctId_541307_langId_-1_categoryId_165688#dtab

or

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...5_categoryId_165688_langId_-1?cm_vc=IOV4PDPZ1

The latter are described as styling lamps, but are infact DRL's.

i used to have these strips on my mk2 before i got my HID kit. i wired them straight into the side lights, was stopped for a random check by a total knob officer and he was more interested in them then anything, thought it was a good idea to have them as they are more visible then stndrd side lights, i may have a pic on my profile take a look. if i was to advise nything though id forget the idea and get a HID kit ;) looks much better and does better job of lighting up the road. ;)

We'll firstly sidelight/possition lamps aren't designed to be driven with. Should be headlamps. Irritates me, people who thing side lights are sufficient :bang:

And 2nd'ly HID kits are very costly to install legally ;)

Best to use this topic instead of creating a new one again

Right i've gone against the "bendy" led strips, and going for the LED's That Bolt on, Question is

Going to Put them on the front Bumper, just Below My Numberplate, Have the standard Punto Bumper Would i be okay putting them there, or would the heat from the radiator melt the wires? I was planning on putting them as far away as i can, but would i run risk of them melting and shorting?

Should be ok. Don't forget to put and inline fuse in close to power source though so if worst does happen its just a popped fuse (y)

There like £2 each ish off ebay so yea why not :)
Means i can solder a light to one fuse

Got 2 more questions tho (thanks for help so far everyone)

- What Rating Fuse should i use? Since it draws very little i want one thats like 1amp? or less?

- Would i be better to wire both off one side or to wire one to each side?

Many thanks

Yep, something like a 1 or 3 amp fuse.

As to sides your choice if both together or too each side, Just personal prefrence.

It Might be better IF i Did Both to just one side - one set of wires sliced, and that means only one wire has to be chocolate blocked too, and should i have to remove them - means less repair work too :)

I'll try a 1amp fuse too as they shouldnt draw much
