Ok, heres one for you technically minded people to think about if you dont mind? :)

My car is chirping at the moment when she's cold and i just slightly tough the accelerator either on the way up or way down. It does it in all gears but seems to stop when she's done a few miles.

Any ideas?

the best way I can describe it is like a chirp from a small bird. I haven't checked but im pretty sure there isnt one under the bonnet :)

Thanks guys,

Accelerator pedal is just a potentiometer, cant understand that it could make noise like that. Do you by any chance have climate control ?

Outside chirp or inside?

i had bird chirp from the under bonnet, im pretty sure it was the cam belt or the tensioner, slipping on start up, only did it on start up though. Changed now though.

thanks for the replies

Thanks for the replies, guys.

The noise is under the bonnet and is definitely linked to what i do with the pedal.. its when i just touch it or im lifting off.

I had the belts changes at 65k miles and im on 90k at the mo... so I'd hope theyre ok? (maybe not)... but to be honest it sounds more metallic. I have ntohing to substantiate that with.

Like I say it just sounds like a little bird chirping very quietly.

Hmm.

you had a new downpipe fitted anytime in the past by chance?

hi skate2create, thanks for the reply.

i wouldn't know what one of those was to be honest with you :)

its the pipe that fits between the Exhaust manifold and the catalytic convertor incorporating a flexi-pipe.

I had a "pattern-part" downpipe fitted and I get an occassional chirp between 2500-3000Rpm.
I put it down to this cheap part.

Might not be the same for you however.

hmm, ive not had anything fitted like that, but I am getting a whine at 3000-3500rpm now in all gears. Not so bothered about that because I don't really give her that much welly very often.

It's certainly a different noise to the chirp im getting too :)

Could be a aux belt or tensioner mine did this on my last car a hgt 155 with only 29,000 on the clock ?turned out to be the power steering tensioner pulley ,annoying it was too.

oh, thats interesting.. thanks mate. Are they easy to check myself or am i best to get a garage to check? Is it dangerous to leave them if it is what you think?

I took it to a local garage by word of mouth they dont charge to locate the faults !
Hope you have someone similar you can use?

i had a `chirp` but it was somethin to do with the belts or tensioners, the only reason i know this tho, is because i`ve had my cam belt/tensioners changed so now every time i hear the engine and when i turn it off it doesn`t do it anymore,

Bravo, why settle for less 1.8GT BRAVO

Paul does it occur when the engine is turned off also ?
And does it by any chance come from around the diesel filter region ?

Hi Sven,

I dont know about when its off but i dont think - will check on my way home from work tonight and let you know :)

It does seem to get better when shes warmed up.. i did wonder if I needed an oil change originally?

She was serviced last september mate... at about 65k (from memory).

Had the cambelt and other belt (aux is it?) replaced as well at my request
