On top of the gearbox I noticed what I think is the slave cylinder there was a small leak that smelt of brake fluid is this the slave I take it and is it an easy diy job and what tools would I need please.

U can work around battery tray to remove the 2x 13mm bolts

But having battery tray out will help!
Bleeding is done when connector is slightly out allowing bleed nipple access to fluid

Thanks Zig what are the common symptoms of bad slave apart for leaking:D, sometimes cannot get 1st gear and reverse abit if a struggle on odd occasions

Is it an easy job?

Never had to replace one

Dont loose the clip holding the pipe into the slave cylinder....

But yes air in clutch lines can cause issues with disengaging gears


But 1hr tops to change and bleed :)

What Dot brake fluid is it mate no hand book gggrr

its always printed into the master brake cylinder top (this controls clutch fluid too on this car)
should say 4

It can be IF the brake lines dont release....

Sometimes they seize solid and you end up twisting them without actually been able to remove it

Yes you can undonthe 2x10mm and turn it off that way
But ensuring its tight when going back on is the fun part.....

Remember brake fluid is flammable and poisionous

And dot4 boggo standard stuff is perfectly fine for the punto
