What? thats shocking? Maybe the way they get around this is because extra's add little to the secondhand value.

Maybe you should take out Gap insurance (or is that something else?) with the garage, so if you're car is written of they make up the difference to your invoice cost so you get a new car.

My GF has this, it cost her something like £200 for 3 years.

Thanx James, I will phone the dealer in the morning about that GAP insurance.. being an Abarth i would imagine its a target for the theiving little ****s of this world..

Talking of that...whats the Fiat alarm like ?
im havin it fitted with the car ( soddin insurance didn't give me any money back on that tho ) I know its takin the car up to a CAT 1 as its got the imobiliser aswell, does anyone know how good this alarm is ?

I was arranging to have microwave sensors installed by a 3rd party company but a lot of them are saying that its not possible to add onto the Factory fitted Fiat alarms ..is this true or are they trying to get me to purchase a whole new alarm from them ?

GAP insurance can also cover the difference between the outstanding liability left on an HP agreement and the overall claim paid by the insurer. Check the paperwork first to see what you are buying!

Sometimes, it may be possible to owe more on HP, so GAP insurance cuts in to pay the difference! A likely case is when you write off the car as you leave the forecourt, potentially.

I have never bothered, tbh, due to level of deposits I pay and short HP terms, if at all :)

Gap

Thats it! GAP is the difference between what you owe and what the cars worth, the insurance I'm on about is called something else!

Its worth understanding the difference, there was a guy in Autoexpress the other week had been wrongly sold GAP, because as he had put down a big deposit he was never going to owe more than the cars value. He should have been sold the other insurance.

well after finding out i needed to pay the xtra 76 for the sunroof and leather, i decided to get another quote from elephant with those extras on the quote and it came out over £100 cheaper with the options declared...so I have now cancelled my policy and taken out the same one but im 100 quid better off... crazy eh... worst thing was i had to go through to a call centre ( i wonder where that was located ) and the woman who i could hardly understand did not have a clue what i was talkin about so that evened things up a bit..
I know its a lot of hassle sending back the policy and all that but theres no way im paying over £100 more for something after a 3 day gap in quotes...
that money can buy pressies for the kids :)

A Good insurance company to go with for modifications is CIS, when i had my punto. I was only 18 and had full bodykit, alloys, etc, induction kit, chip, the works on it?! and they didnt charge me excessive amounts for this.. all i had to do was show the documents for the work that had been done and the just added a premium to my insurance cover. Was about an extra £25 a month on to of my insurance! Then if the car got stolen, etc.. i would get the car price, plus money for the modifications! They are not the cheapest but are a good company, looking at quotes, they come in the mid section in comparison!

I priced the factory fit 04 skirts for my 3 door today. Unpaited, they go for £158 a side inc VAT plus fitting & painting. The Abart ones are much cheaper, even if you get the indents for the Scorpion's filled in before fitting / painting!

Were did u go to get this quote as im thinking about having some fitted on to my stilo and i have exactly the same model as you; 1.8 Dynamic 3dr!

im 20 with 0 years no claims
with all the mods declaired in my sig
and i pay £1200 fully comp withan agreed pay out of 15k for my car if i write it off
arian flux custom car insurance is definatley the way forward!!
im also limited to 10k miles a year!!

I've been with various insurance firms over the past 10 years and Average fux are the worst insurance firm i've every had the misfortune to deal with.

Competitive quotes, but only 'cos they have no intention of paying out for repairs, they will claim the car is a write off, and then give you book value, which for a Stilo will be about £4-5k.... they devalue quicker than the euro.

I spent 12 weeks trying to get my mini fixed when an uninsured drive hit me, they offered me £600 for the car, worth £2k and then when i'd pushed them enough spent £1200 on repairs...... crazy, especially as the car then failed its MOT based on the repairs!

Nos on a diesel? Does it do much? I wouldn't have thought you could.

Adrian Flux have a bad rep, as Stiloboy says for copping out, and the £15k value of your Stilo is mad, how can a used Stilo be worth that much? Don't kid yourself spending a fortune on mods adds value, its a car not a house, if anything a heavily modded motor will be less saleable.

I think if a car has been modded tastefully and its obvious the car has been really cared for, then it can make the car hold its value when it gets to a certain point..but its not ganna make it go up to £15,000.. maybe when the cars about 3 years old it may hold its value for a couple of years if its fine example and theres a lot of time and money been spent on it...
Personaly i think the stilo is like the punto...get a good one, do it up really nice and keep it as your pride and joy and as long as you see it that way it will hold its value to you alone.
