Hello all

I have an interesting dilemma that I need help on. I'm keen to purchase an Abarth and have two lined up. Both are 2006 however on has 19600kms and is for sale for R132000 the other is on 104000km and is for sales at R99000.

My question is, what would the 'life expectancy' be of an Abarth's motor? i drive about 250kms :bang: a day so it's an important question. Assistance?

What car is it

If Stilo I know in UK they have an issue with the engines needing major overhall at 50,000 miles (80,000km).

I'd be looking at the fact that the lower km one might have this problem to come. Equally has the higher km one had this happen and the money spent to over hall it? Is there paper work etc and garage garentiee? If so the higher km one might actually be a better buy not only because of the price.

Hope this helps.

Jon.

That does actually make sense, the higher mileage Abarth has been for its 80000km major service, replacing all the belts, tentioners etc alond with a full service history. The other has only been ridden in and out of the show room for 3 1/2 years.

thanks again for your advice!

You welcome. If you buy the car be sure to pop over to the cars section on here and post some pic's (y) :)

I have a Punto HGT Abarth. The cam belt failed at 66,000 miles (long story including 6 bent exhaust valves). It should have been changed at 40,000.

Inside the engine was like new. The cylinder bores still showed the honing marks and cam bearings were hardly polished. I replaced the bent valves and fitted new belts and cam belt tensioner. I used new head bolts and a top quality head gasket.

I also replaced the coolant thermostat which was sticking. I believe because the coolant had not been serviced.

The clutch has also been replaced as the action was heavy. The car was cheap to buy and apart from my mistake using it with a suspect cam belt its been a good purchase.
