Hi everyone

Does anybody know if an Abarth body kit was an optional extra to a 52 reg Punto Active or if it has been modified by the previous owner? I'm really only trying to find out for insurance purposes to see if my policy could be cheaper.

Thanks

It could of been either to be honest.

You not got original paper work?

What are the insurance asking? I am not advising this at all but there is not much risk in my opinion of having different bumpers on insurance if they are added extras at some point. There is no way for every owner of a car to know what was purchased as an extra on their car.

Cheers for the quick reply.

I've got the manual for the car but I can't find anything in it to help.

At the moment I'm paying £600 odd for the insurance and that is with me telling them that the car has a body kit (it would have been about £100 cheaper if I hadn't told them). I had contemplated not mentioning it but I was worried if I had an accident they would say my insurance was invalid.
My insurance is up for renewal soon so I was going to see if I could find out for definate before then and try to save myself a bit of money.

Go moan at the last poster and say you just told people not to declare an induction kit and swap it if you crash.

lol and say to Dave how do you expect everyone to know whether their car has added extras or not when they buy it second hand?

the abarth bumper is supplied by Fiat... so you have to put it down on your insurance as a body kit optional extra ...

I don't but I can take some. The bumpers don't say Arbath on them but both of the side sills have the Abarth sign. I wouldn't have a clue if they were genuine or not.

they have like a 'fiat stamp' on the inside or near the arches. These are not standard on a active but could be sold for alot if sold separately.

I didn't say to do it! I said thats a way round it because i know people will put one on and not declare it so just to help them out a bit to change it over if needs be!

does your kit look like this?

The side skirts are defo the same and I think they are the same bumpers. Will need to double check though when I leave work!

The genuine Abarth has the body kit but also all sorts of other stuff and badges etc. I suspect its not that much different to insure from a standard car with a body kit.

One thing for certain dont risk under-selling the car to the insurers. Yes it puts up the price, but they don't need much excuse to void the policy and you'll find yourself having p[aid out but still effectively uninsured.

And there's always the poor s*d you might run into. His NCD gets hammered by having a bump from a driver who turns out to be uninsured.

Had a look and yes my car does have the same bumpers as this only a different colour and a lot dirtier!
