you cannot compare a clio 200/200 cup to an A500 its in a totally differnt league, i owned a clio 200 with full cup chassis, carbon bonnet and a rear section roll cage for 7 months and on track and a fast b road there isnt much that can keep up.

my firned has an astra vxr 'ring edition and asoon as it got twisie on a road i was off, he couldnt keep up at all, with the clio its all about staying in the 5k rev band and staying on the power.

also tracked it and it was flawless

The cost of an Essesse Abarth puts it up there with a Clio though.

But it isn't about price - it is about what people are happy to pay for it.

People are willing to pay more for the A500 than they are for a Clio - at least that is what Fiat are thinking. It has nothing at all to do with performance (beyond the faster Abarth being more expensive than the slower base fiat 500)

It won't get run-in if you drive it like that! put your foot down.

i had an abarth 500 for about 18 months and and most of my driving was in city traffic...even at the end of my ownership averaged about 28/29mpg round town. ok so i did have sport on, but your figure isnt too far off my experience. i often averaged over 40 on longer cruises so its swings and roundabouts, but they are very poor in stop/start driving.

even my replacement car (a lotus elise with a 1.8 engine) does about 35mpg round town!

Good evening all, i'm new. Approaching 60,000 in my A500 now and the economy is great! I get an average of 40 MPG, but I reset my trip MPG every trip (it helps me drive more efficiently)

On a 60 mile trip at the weekend I got 51.6 MPG, not exceeding 60 MPH. It's a very economical car/engine if you drive it properly.

Holy Thread Resurrection!

Put a couple of thousand miles on my Abarth 500c and I thought I'd see what sort of MPG I could get if driven sensibly.
I covered 339 miles on a tank, a mixture of roads and speeds, no sport button usage and even got the roof down for around 100 miles.
The range counter went --- just as I pulled in to fill up and she took 33.79 litres of V Power which gave an MPG figure about the same as the indicated 45.7.
Quite happy with that but I expect I'll be back to my more normal 36ish soon enough.
