My son had an accident in his Stilo and now has the following repair bill. He was third party only so the cost is all his. These are the prices we have been given, just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere that these parts can be found cheaper or if anyone knows of a 1.8 being broken.

Radiator
Aircon Radiator
Front panel for headlights and rad
fan housing
downpipe
catalytic converter (55189602 part number)
Air filter housing

Apparently the catalytic converter from Fiat is £1200, would a second hand one be ok?

The front bumper is also cracked but repairable.

Its all in bits all over my back garden at the moment :(

A second hand cat would be fine but make sure it is for a 1.8 (obviously)

thats a lot of damage he's done though! i hope you have given his ass a good kicking.

Would rather see the car in bits than him, so expensive lesson learned, hes gutted. Hopefully he will drive slower now:rolleyes:

Have you thought of looking for a second hand rougher/tired /high mileage carr to use as a donor? There's a 1.8 on ebay for 700 quid - might well be a cheaper than sourcing and buying the parts separately, and give you an ongoing supply of spares. For the sake of a few quid train fare to get to wherever the car is and drive it back, might save you a fortune.

Yes, we have been looking for one, do you happen to have the link? I have been looking on ebay but must have missed that one.

have a look at this mate on ebay, even though its a 5 door the front end is the same and all the parts.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2002-52-F...omobiles_UK&hash=item3cbd81d911#ht_2252wt_989

you could get this and use the parts you need and then sell the car on and might just be out of pocket a couple of 100 quid

or even strip the car, sell the parts on there own and then scrap the car. you will make money doing it that way.

hope that helps

:yeahthat:

Will have spares for all your other Stilo's then Fiona :p

1.8 CAT try ebay, will be easier than trying to find one for a 1.4! :(

Given that the headlights and bumper are different on a five door, are you sure the other parts will be ok if they come from a five door? That would certainly increase the chances of finding a donor car.

Found the eper, if it doesnt actually specify if its a different part for a 3 / 5 or MW. Unless I am doing something wrong? Does this mean that I assume its the same part fits all unless it states otherwise?

There's no easy way to compare part numbers in ePER. You have to look up the part number of the part you have and the one you're thinking of buying then compare them on paper.

On the ePER page below, M20 (top left) indicates the 1.8 engine. P3 and P5 in the COMPatibility column indicates that item #1, (Partition Panel) is different for 3 and 5 door models.

Item #2 (Conveyor) is different depending on MODIFication number 10363. Modification numbers can be looked up in a list. In this instance, 10363 says that a bracket was removed or changed on that part during December 2004. C10363 means upto that date, D10363 means after that date.

Best way to do it is to put your VIN in ePER to get an accurate list of all the part numbers you need then look up the part numbers of parts you've seen for sale and compare them. If you have the donor cars VIN it would be easier, but if not, youd need to get as much information about the donor car as possible to be able to get the correct part numbers.

Found a second hand cat on ebay, Fiat price £1400, ebay £80 including shipping. It arrived today and looks absolutely fine. That was the most expensive part needed so the repair bill just got much lower :)
