There's a couple of things that have been bugging me since I bought my Bravo:

• I can never get into reverse gear without really shoving it, or most of the time putting it up into 5th and back down again. Is this fixable?

• My windows (Especially Pass. side) take about a month to wind up!

Has anyone had (or more importantly fixed) these bugs?
Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

Fiats are well known for crunchy reverse gears. Try double clutching when going into reverse.

clutch down - select neutral - clutch up - clutch down - select reverse.

I have the same problem

Reverse it really cruchy and the windows do take forever.

Although being the lazy bastard I am i'd rather they be slow than me have to wind them up manualy.

Yep...

Reverse has done this in every Fiat i've driven, in fact I bought my Bravo new and I don't remember whether it did it from day one, but I don't remember it not doing it so ...

Re: Yep...

Engaging reverse gear in many cars can be problematic, some owner manuals even highlight this and describe the double de-clutching procedure.

Re: Re: Yep...

i want to shorten my gear stick but it is a lift up reverse thing is it possible i have had a look and it looks like it can be removed o and another thing my gear Knob wont come off any advice?

no syncro in reverse

Hi,

I think you'll find that most cars do tend to crunch into reverse admitedly Fiats more than others.
All cars these days are fitted with syncromesh forward gears but not in reverse (a dog tooth gear).
To select reverse the car should be at a complete stop,
If this doesn't stop most of the crunching then try selecting reverse slower to give the "dog teeth" more of a chance to engage without damage.

Re: Re: Re: Yep...

When did Fiat introduce lift up for reverse? All the Fiats I've driven have been direct selection.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Yep...

You might want to check your clutch slave pump.

Thanks,

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Yep...

Try this for getting into reverse.

Gentle pressure on the gear lever towards to reverse position.

Raise clutch SLOWLY and GENTLY, maintaining the pressure on the lever. Make sure you either have the handbrake on, or you have your right foot on the brake, otherwise there is a anger of you moving backwards.

Car should fall into gear. At this point put the clutch back in. Sounds complicated but it works well for me!

My 2000V brava 80sx has got a lift up for reverse. i think its just the 1.2i engine that has the lift up reverse gear change.

reverse is a b@*!h

just b4 u go in reverse, put it in2 1st gear 1st then put it in reverse, works evry time!

samo samo

The rear in my 1998 td100 bravo has the same problem as your and all that Fiat Portugal has to say is "it´s life". The window on the passengers side, I´m told by other bravo owners to grease up the electrical system, my advice, better slow than broken.
