I got bored this evening so i done a bit of tidying up of my in-car PC...

This is how it was...(A big mess)

I swapped the PC around a bit to give me more room...(Believe me this was a big improvement)

I made an mdf stealthy type thing to hide it away, and provide a bit of security, and covered it to match my dash an doors.

The screen up front, this is just temporary until i install it in the dash. (The screen looks very fuzzy in the pic but it looks perfectly fine in reality..(see below)

As you can see...:)

nice that daz coming along very well did you trim the door cards yourself

Re: Re: A bit more done to my Carputer (pics)

How did you attach the trim to the fuse box cover and glove bos Daz?

Re: Re: Re: A bit more done to my Carputer (pics)

i would of thought a nice can of spray glue would have done the trick (could be wrong though)

Re: Re: Re: A bit more done to my Carputer (pics)

Thanks for the feedback guys...

The material was attached using simple spray glue.

I was bored again...lol

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: A bit more done to my Carputer (pics)

I'm not like that...

...glad to see your getting there...

The biggest problem i had was getting the sound through the head unit...What are your plans for this? (Do you have an Aux-In/Input on your head-unit)

Eventually i am going to have 5.1 or 6.1 surround in the car :), but i need a few more amps first :(

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: A bit more done to my Carputer (pics)

id like 5.1 but i dont think its practical for me at tme mo!
Well my pioneer head unit doesnt have an aux input yet but im in the process of bidding for the adapter on ebay that connects to the cd changer plug. once i got that it shouldnt be to hard, i hope!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: A bit more done to my Carputer (pics)

Sound like the same thing i have for my alpine head unit...(Ai-net)

I hope you get the same results as i have got...

Sorry i forgot to ask in previous posts, what are your plans for your Carputer? (MP3, Video, GPS..etc)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: A bit more done to my Carputer (pics)

well primarily it was for my collection of mp3s, but seeing as the pc i have has loads of expansion slots im gonna add a gps unit to it, prob usb as ill have a usb hub up front, wireless pcmcia network card to update it from the house, and im gonna get an external usb caddy for my dvd drive so i can put that upfront to eventually. Also i been looking around and i noticed people are working on some sort of gps
speed trap detector software so that will be good if it works.

This ones for Daz

i think you have done what i have been pondering over...above the glove box, where the passenger airbag goes- have you covered that in black fabric, i was thinking about flocking the top half of my dash like in the rally cars have, to stop the sun blinding them as it reflects of the dash on them desert runs!

Put on some more pic's of that on, lets have a peak!

Re: This ones for Daz

@ Dev - Sounds like you have the majority sorted out...good luck with the install...

...if you are serious about the GPS part, Me, TAFI and Alan T are buying the GPS software between us (If you join the clan 'so to speak' we can probably get it for £20 each)

I am very interested in the GPS speed trap detector, but after reading lots of info from other forums and websites, it is too easy for UK police to find you are blocking, so i am a bit wary of these devices...

As for the DVD drive, your best bet is the USB2.0 to IDE card and a USB extension cable if required, as (again) according to other websites and forums, you loose to much data when locating the DVD player too far from the PC (>11")

@ Paul R - I havent covered to dash part as you claimed, i think the HGT (and possibley HLX) has a slightly darker higher section of dash than the other models.

damn huge computers

wow those computers are huge.
why dont you guys try fit the internals and drives into a small casing,
there are some cool micro cases floating around, neons and stuff. i know yours aren't on display but it might save you some space or make it worth of showing it off.
not critising cos the only comp i have in car is my laptop running up front and 2 screens in the rear.

Re: damn huge computers

Not sure about the other guys setup, but inside my case there is hardly an inch of space left...

I know you can get much smaller motherboards, but i am planning to change mine to a 2.4ghz, which all fits into the same size case...

The smallest i could find if your interested is the nano-itx m/board, if i remember its 5.6" x 5.6"

The latest one.

I realise you are not critisising but the problem with these (for me) as you can see by the pic, is that they only have 1 ram slot, no PCI slots, only 1 IDE, basic stereo sound card and the graphics card is only good enough to play MP3's and DVD's.

With my system i want quite a bit of ram (=>1ghz), Wireless LAN (PCI), 2 hard-drives, 4.1 surround sound and a decend enough graphics card to play games and active 3D models....(I don't want much...:))

Re: Re: damn huge computers

Thats basically the same for me, plus i like the look of mine it actually looks quite sleek in real life, and i like the flexiblitly and expandibility mine gives me (plus the fact that it only cos mt a tenner!) but even so i wouldve built a full size one anyway for the same reasons Daz listed above. I can see how some people would want a small case to save space and to look good, but thats not a major factor for me and i do think it look fairly decent

Re: Re: Re: damn huge computers

I think i beat you on the cost of the PC...

They threw away 2 PC's in work because of faults...

On the one the motherboard was knackered, and the other one only the RAM wasn't working, so i put the RAM from the one with the bust motherboard into the other one...hey presto...one fully working free PC! :)
