Okay, don't laugh. I have a 899cc and I am not happy as i feel annoyed that its slow off the mark. However still nippy at the lights etc, but its the speed gain that it lacks :(

So what do I need to gain the extra 300+cc to the motor and what are the costs. Really this goes out to ppl who have done the upgrade before.

I do know that a 1242 is needed from a Punto 60 correct? But a 1.4 is on the cards if the price is right :-D

Thanks.

I have the wiring loom, ecu, keys, black box sender unit and other bits needed for the conversion for sale.

PM me if your interested

Thanks Puntoruss. I will wait on F.I.A.T on his advice and go from there. Still - I am eyeing a Proton Compact 1.3 Sport or if Im lucky a 1.8 GTi :D

1.4 is a big job, they are a much larger engine and would need big moolah to do right.

899 to 1242 - you'd need to change the gearbox, driveshafts, engine obviously, throttle body, inlet and exhaust manifolds (899 doesn't really have an inlet manifold as such, and the engine is arse first compared to the 1242) possibly the gear linkage and cables, throttle/speedo/clutch cables, entire exhaust, and more.
You will have no anti roll bar either (sportings do), which will give you some hairy moments accelerating out of corners too, but you can fit one.

The 1108 to 1242 is an easier swap, basically plugs onto the same 'box.

It can be done though, I know someone who had his 899 converted. It's just that the sporting's an easier start point.

Ring some breakers and ask, you want a mk1 punto 60 (L to V reg) engine, and ideally the throttle body too. I got mine for the bargain price of £150 (engine only) but had to travel a fair old way to get it.

sei-mad you also need to remember that you probably wont get any of the money back from the conversion when you sell the car. ok if you're gonna keep it for a while but you already looking at other cars so you might regret it. just thought id say if you can afford a newer car id go for it. not that i havent considered the 1242!! still id rather save my money til next year when hopefully il have money for something a bit quicker. im thinking 106 gti but its probably just a dream.......

Good points, but a quick cinq or sei will surprise many a (much) bigger car. They really are hoot too, mine's got about 75bhp (89bhp if you believe the comedy rolling road at Stanford Hall) and although it's no GTI killer, it really is a hoot to drive. As it is now, it'll out-handle many a fast car too.

It's Grintastic Mate!!

Well the Proton dream has gone. However speaking to some of the engineers at work about cars etc. I've found out that they do engine swaps on ford cars! excellent.. started to chat to them about mine and will be looking to see if they can do mine? - personnaly I have no need to sell the car, I don't have family or such and its a hoot as FIAT says :) -small and fun!

Let see what they have to say.

Thanks all :)

i agree fixitagain a many a larger "faster" car has had trouble keeping up with my lowered, uprated disked cinq through the twistie bits! and they're not that slow in a straight line really. much quicker than a ka or punto60 or nova 1.2! not amazing cars but still not too bad.
i think people should think about how far they want to go with the modding and the state of the original car.
my cars bodywork was rubbish when i got it and i recently got quoted 1000 to put it back to original condition with a respray. if it wasnt for that i would have got a bodykit and probably a 1242 engine by now!
moral of the story is modify a car thats in good condition to start with! saves a lot of money!
