Just fitted an 866 cam this afternoon....only took about an hour, and much easier than I expected.

To make things even better, all the clearances were spot on, so no need to change the shims.

I have to say......:D:D:D

After 4k the power just keeps coming....made a big difference to be honest....acceleration above 4k is very rapid compared to before. If the weather is okay tomorrow, hopefully should be going with a mate to an old airfield where he's testing his race car....and I'll see what it can actually do now most of the bits have been done:D

I meant to take some photos....but in my enthusiasm to get it done, I forgot.

However, if anybody is planning on doing it....it is very straight forward....the Haynes manual covers most of it. When I get a chance, I'll try to write a guide.

I'm looking for that steering wheel ;) but they usually come from the punto 75 engine, spookycinq had one a little while ago maybe worth asking him :)

It does affect insurance....it is not a standard fitment, and produces more power, so it is declarable.....fortunately I declared it at the same time as all the other engine and suspension mods....everything came to an extra £28/year inc admin fee:D

Hi

The only way you can avoid declaring it is if you sign yourself out of ward 40 and put the old cam back before the ins inspector lifts the cam cover, difficult with a broken leg, and the slam panel integrated with the bonnet, and auto in a garage pound...

If he lifts the cam cover before you, he takes a pic of it in situ and removes the cam and posts it to ins company...

You get to pay the courts for life...

You should also only use the approved rubber wear sizes.

Seriously all this insurance banter is getting kinda old now, if people mod there cars then its up to them if they declair it or not people know what mods they can and cant do and upon smashing the car to bits will either get royally bummed or will get along fine

Who cares if people dont declair mods I know most of my mates that have changed engines havent declaired them but I dont constantly go on about how them not declairing there mods makees my insurance more

Seriously give it a rest

Took it out this afternoon.....absolutely love it. Only managed a couple of runs as it was quite busy, but got an approx 0-60 of 8.5s.....and as for top end....it just went off the speedo, which is an indicated 120. I would like to get it rolling roaded, as when I first got it, it seemed much quicker than I expected....it'll be interesting to see what power its putting out.

I think the only thing left I can do is to change the manifold....but that'll have to wait. Got to spend some money fitting a 1.4 16v in my cinq in Spain:D

So far engine wise:

Sealed induction kit with intake in front bumper.
41mm Tricker TB
Superchips chip
866 cam
Magnex cat-back exhaust system
Sports cat
Ported and polished cylinder head + skimmed to increase compression
Lightened flywheel
NGK platinum spark plugs
Magnecor HT leads
Fuel pressure increased
Magnatec oil changed every 6 months
OMP clutch
Reconditioned injector

Probably more stuff....some of it was already done when i bought the car, and I've done other bits myself. Once I've got the cinq in Spain sorted....I might seriously look at a turbo conversion.;)

For today I removed the back seats, spare wheel and passenger seat.....a good 50 or 60kg....and even that made a noticeable difference.

I was quite surprised as well.....I initially fitted it to check what shims I would need....but after checking all 8 valves, they were all spot on.....so I left it in. However....the shims and buckets did look in excellent condition.....possibly changed when the head was skimmed about 7 months ago??

Hi Lee

We are not worried about our insurance but your mates enjoyment.

If you have an accident with a non standard auto (which was not declared) or a badly maintained auto and the independent engineering assessor indicates that the auto's state was contributory, the judge will agree with the insurance company that the insurance contract was/is void.

All the insurance companies contribute to a pool of money for uninsured accidents, and the court will make the normal recompense to the injured parties from that.

The snag is that the court then may also stop a substancial % of your income at source for life or until the sum reaches the settlement value (+ interest), like if you get 500 clear a week in a job with tips you may be on tips, for life...

As long as you understand that the rest of us have no vesting interest, we can keep quiet.

Do you need an 866 cam to impress the seat cover?

P.S. there is a similar scheme in Southern Ireland. If you have an accident if the other driver looks suspicious sit on his head until cops arrive. In Belfast there are a lotta joy riders...
