This was about fitting a 6sp mk.2 Punto Sporting box into a mk.1 Sporting, which is just what I'm about to do (along with 1368 bottom end under my retained top end), so maybe I'm on the wrong forum, but you Sei guys know everything.

Answer was: "im sure it would fit the block, but you have different linkages (completely different), different mounting, different clutch, maybe flywheel?, different slave cylinder set up etc"

This sounds harder than expected, if true. Tho in my case it's gonna be a bottom end and matching 6sp box out of a Stilo or Idea, so that makes the clutch etc poss easier than if retaining the mk.1 5sp box. Leaves linkage, mounts, clutch slave to worry about.

Any comments?

Brill fingers, just that I'll have to get those externals, as am just buying the s/h 1368 engine (for its bottom end only) and 6sp box, no donor car.

So I will have a Stilo complete top end to dispose of.

Yus :) it will work, just swap the top hat of the gearbox to what is currently in your bottom.

I am running the 1368 block with a mk1 punto 16 head using the the 1.2 flywheel and clutch.

Great - and hey tell me about sliding that 1368 block in - any problems, or direct fit?

I guess in a Sei it's quite custom, not like in a mk.1 Punto simply keeping the whole mk.1 top end, exhaust, ECU etc. That's what I'm doing, and I wonder what it'll be like - better than the usual 1368 95bhp hopefully, and still snappy like the 1242. Hope the ECU will adjust to bigger ccs, unaltered.

Just have to grind down the engine mount in the cento. And i am using the mk1 punto 16v ecu as well with the matching injectors, just turned the fpr up. It ain't perfect but will do for now.

mk1 top end is better :D, double valve spring and hotter cams :).

So you are running a standard mk.1 Punto Sporting type setup, and the ECU compensates well enough just with more fuel pressure?

Do you know what the change did to the CR? Cd go either way, depending on piston crown shape.

So how does it feel? - any loss of the mk.1 16v 1242's great revvy responsiveness? cos it's relatively longer stroke. Any guess at bhp/torque compared with non-mk.1 1368s?

Mk.1 1242 Sporting 70.8 bore : 78.9 stroke = 0.90:1 84hp 83lb.ft
Mk.2B 1368 Sporting 72.0 bore : 84.0 stroke = 0.86:1 94hp 94lb.ft

1368 Sporting with mk.1 top end ?99hp? ?95lb.ft?

What's your impression?

I had both 1.2 16v then now 1.4 16v in the car.

There is for sure a difference between the two, but I can also feel the "restriction" in the engine due to a wrong map.

Would hate to guess numbers, but probably 95, and may be 100 ish once proper mapped.

As for a road car, it is great and it makes fun driving :).

As you are putting in a punto could you not use the punto ECU then go for a remap (if is OBD2?) ? What year is the punto ?

R Reg - great, whatever you can explain about that.
