On your link it's just adapter to connect OBD2 interface and Fiat 3 pins connector (KKL).
You still need proper interface like for example on my link (VAG COM)

Isn't that the second link on my post???

Please accept my appologise - I don't know how I missed it but I saw just one:eek:
Yes - that's right. Interface + adaptor and it should be OK :)

If you want USB cable then it has to be based on the FT232 chip, cables based on other chips may don't work correctly.

I'd like to inform that recently Yani had introduced IAW-16F/18F support in his MultiEcuScan.

Hi Tzok from what I understand you have created this software (IAW-scan2), is this correct?
Is there a way to find out what chip the USB cable uses?
If I buy a serial cable will there be the same issue or not?

Hello again,
I just went to my car and checked my ECU.
The car is a 1999 Seicento 1.1 SPI and the ECU is the Magnetti IAW 16FM.E6,
will this be supported by the IAW scan2 software?
Because in the program's download page it has only these IAW-6F/8F/16F/18F/18FD.
Thanks

Hello guys, first of all thanks to who has made this incredible forum full of precious infos!

I have some issues with my car and reading the ECU. I have a Mk1 Punto 1.2 16v and it has a IAW 18FD.5Z ECU.

What I am currently doing is this:
- connect the 3 pin adapter of the OBD adaptor to the ECU
- connect the +12V cable of the OBD adaptor to the battery
- connect the ground to the chassis
- connect the OBD adaptor to the vag-com cable
- connect the vag-com cable to my laptop

When I open the software, after choosing the COM correctly, if I select autodetect, press F10 and turn on the dash the software isn't able to detect the correct ECU.
If I manually choose 18FD ECU, press F10 and turn on the dash it seems that something is going on, but on the bottom part of the software where it should tell the precise model of the car and other bits of details doesn't shows nothing and after just a moment loses the connection and asks me to press F12 to reconnect or F10 to disconnect.

Any suggestion?
Thanks

I sometimes had issue with IAWScan on my 18FD as well. Sometimes it worked no problem and other times it didn't.. No idea why though, perhaps TzOk can shed some light on it... But i found MultiECUScan could read the codes fine if you really can't get it to work.

Well, first of all thanks for your reply.
I was searching around to see if something could help me, and I had already seen MultiECUScan (and to be honest cause I was looking for the old FiatECUScan).
Will try tomorrow and see if it works.

For IAW Scan 2 to work you have to have an FT232 chip based cable, and you must be aware that recent driver update from Windows Update was 'killing' the fake FT232 chips, that were mounted in many chinese VAG-COM clones.

So I tried yesterday to connect my car with both IAW Scan2 and MultiECUScan with no success.
Maybe it's because I'm using windows 8.1 and so those updates you're mentioning are in some ways giving me this issue. I am going to try with a different version of windows, I just have to figure out when ;)
