My 1.2 Active was recovered by AA to main dealer last week.
Provisional indication show stress damage to gearbox.
Car showing 250 over revs and Fiat Technical is pointing this as the issue.
The car has been driven well, fully maintained main dealer.
Anyone else experienced this issue and this response.

i have a 1.2 active 2008, and within my first 6 months of buying the car brand new then gearbox fell out on way to college, so had to have a new gearbox put in under warranty. Tbh the fiat gearbox are aload of s***, ask most people on here and i bet most have had to have a new gearbox or had gearbox problems.

Ah the good old 250 over rev count. Have a search in here mate. Fiat are consistantly using over rev count to try and avoid paying out for there crap gearbox's.

Rev limiter won't say you if you over rev when changing down. i.e. if you select 2nd gear while doing 70 when you intended on selecting 4th to overtake...

My God, someone who grasps the concept! :worship: Well done. You're the only one who does, despite the answers being supplied on almost every gearbox thread that's been posted.

Over-rev data also shows what engine speed was reached and for how long. It's these three figures that indicate if the vehicle has had a hard life, or a one-off mistake.

From memory, an over-rev 'event' is logged when the rpm hits 6500.

Ford have used this data for years regarding warranty claims, so it's nothing new. In fact few manufacturers have no gearbox issues, as building a strong, yet cheap, quiet and compact transmission package takes considerable development and involves compromises in one or more of these areas to be viable.

What do you mean 'fell out' johnlad?

So how many would you class as a mistake? cause i had 3 and they said that was driver abuse and exsessive, To me that would come under accidental than on purpose.

Fiat are just a joke when it comes to this issue in my opinion.

3 'events' is nothing. It's possible to reach that just doing a phonic wheel learn. The only reason I could see that being a viable reason is if the duration or speed reached during the events was high.

The only evidance we got shown was a dodgy picture of the read out that showed 3 over rev's and that max rpm was 7200 but it didnt even show if it was for my car thats how suspect it was and fiat customer services said once its been rejected thats it basically so nothing i could do about it.

Do what I have just dont. Go onto the SMMT website, get them to send you a form regarding your complaint and they will assist you.

7200 revs is far higher than I've ever seen, and well beyond the RPM cut-out, which suggests a downshift at too high a speed.

If the printout is from your car it'll have your chassis number and mileage at the top, along with the date and time the ECU was read and the data printed. At the end of the day, if you still don't trust it you can always ask them to physically show you the data stored in the ECU on the Examiner's screen while you watch.

:)

Thats what they said but i know i have never ever down shifted that severly or even close. Its something u would definately notice and after having the car from new with 5 miles on the clock to me it can only of been done before i got hold of the car or whilst it has been in dealerships hands. There is no way of proving this tho cause the read out doesnt show when this level was recorded.

Also like to apologise for hijacking the thread.
