I'm wanting to either replace the alternator pulley or the alternator itself as it seems the pulley is squeaking.

The repair manual states that for the 1.4L (but not 2.0L and 2.4L) you need to remove the air conditioner compressor.

Has anyone replaced the pulley or alternator on 1.4L 500X? Does the A/C compressor have to come off?

Seems all the YouTube videos are for 2.4L...

I recommend you replace the alternator itself, just pulley replacement is not good enough. New alternator is better. Denso is a good make, they have great alternators.

I don't know about removing it though the upper side, I think you can (or try and see if you can) remove the compressor holding screws, there are three of them, without disconecting the pipes from the compressor. That gives you some leeway to move the compressor around a little and maybe you can make room that way to take the alternator out and put the new one.
I did not tried that method but it could work. Just do it carefully.

Here's a video with taking the alternator off on the down side

To me it looks like the man in the video did some unnecessary work taking the wheel down and all he did on that side.
On my Punto (with AC compressor) I managed to take the alternator down and replace it by the lower side (underneath the car, like in the video) just by disconnecting the lower engine mount and easily pushing the engine with a pry bar. Like in these photos
