Hmm need to makes a decision , I want a fun Funky cool car that a safe bet on depreciation should i go for max budget £11k

500c new different would be a 1.2pop with leather and 16" alloys

500 used 1.3d lounge for £8k (seen 2 sell at that price) & remap it ! also save a lil cash

Mini Cooper S Turbo used new shape seen for £11k

Sensible, economy and depreciation the used 500d would win!

New and a bit different 500c (probably lose the most )

or i know its a Fiat forum but the cooper S is a fun car feels fast , great handling & lost its initial depreciation but much more common than 500

BUT WHICH WAY TO GO???????????????????????????????????????????

Get the 500, whichever model you're considering. Unless you like being a sheep. In which case get the Mini and watch everyone else driving the same model as you.

From the day I knew what a car was, I was always intending to get a Mini! But like you say, it seems that every other car on the road is a Cooper. I just decided against being the same as half the population of the world, and went for the 500...

second hand 500 abarth in a few months... :D
i suppose thats possible or even a discounted new one when the initial flurry of orders dry up. for me the cooper s interior is far superior because its not a halfords special  also the cooper s is quicker than the 500 abarth, the 500 will be a rarer sight and the 500c even more so for quite a while yet thank's in part to the "economic downturn" and people not buying car's

the fact that Minis are depreciation proof is wrong. We had a Cooper S Cab which cost £22K new and lost loads over 12months. I would not suggest buying a car on the grounds of depreciation especially a new one. Just go with what makes you happy(y)

Well predictably on a fiat forum the 500 is favourite lol
I know what u mean though its good to be different just thinking is the C worth that extra 3 large over a one year old lounge?
Also i likes the pull back roof rather than full cabriolet looks a bit more retro and less gay think cabrio micra Ka etc
But i would have liked a more open feel if you look closely at 500c pics there is a black strip about 3" wide in from the side panels so as you look up from drivers seat you effectively have no bigger open space then a normal sunroof! unless your looking over your shoulder i hoped it would be a hole right up to side roof panels!
I am not sure if i should wait till Geneva but i think if i dont get a deposit down I could be waiting till mid summer where there estimating april at moment ?

It's a hard one as the 500C isn't a true cabriolet and the mini I had was very open but to be honest I hardly used it open in the country!!!. I think you'd get the same tan with a 500C in south of France:D

just noticed on Car magazine website they are stating 500c prices from £9k £1000 over hard top which would help my decision and thinking about it that seems fair! after all it is just a full length sunroof not a full convertible !

Easy one this; 500 Abarth over a mini everytime.(y) You amy have to wait to get one for 11k and apparently Fiat are only importing 600 into the UK. Personally, I would't go for the 500c.

You paid how much?????????????????????????????

You could buy a proper BMW with back seats and a boot for that!!!!!!!

But as you said buy what you want, while money is a consideration it matters less if you like the car you have while every penny counts if you hate it.

Couldn't agree more. You'd have to really love the car to sign a cheque like that. That's the best part of both a 500c and a normal Lounge.

It just shows that emotion is a huge factor in car buying: I have realised I'm not that emotional ;)

It was my other half, when it had just come out with all options. She loved it but ended up selling it due the massive cost in tyres, service and fuel. She lost more due to the fact that she actually used it i.e. many miles.

Well, she loved it and she could afford it, so never mind. I suppose if she drove it hard then fuel and tyres would have to have been significant. I drove one of the first MINIS and was expecting something amazing. The thing is, I have always put convenience way ahead of emotion when buying - er - anything really: at least I like to think so ;), but I couldn't come to terms with the lowness of the MINI, the impossibility of getting into the back, and the contrived dashboard. I wanted to love it, but I couldn't.

The Abarth 500 on the other hand ticks more of my boxes: you sit higher ( a real plus for me) it is a simple delight inside, and it is really pretty practical. And it has an intangible charm. By comparison with other 'fun' cars it really is a good deal.

Hello from a newb who is probably going to buy an Abarth later today! I've had 3 cooper s's over the last few years and although I loved them I am ready for a change. What with Mini putting their prices up again in March I think they are just pricing themselves out of the market (n)

I test drove the abarth last weekend and within the very first gear change I knew this was the car for me :D Good luck with whatever you decide :)
