Ok.. I'm trying to track down a 479cc engine.... fro my 1959 project
I know this will be hard and probably impossible.. but I need an Original Engine as a return to Std option later in life....

Are there any differences between later Gearboxes and early ones?

Any leads appreciated.. I would have put a wanted ad but there seems to be little action in the Wanted section....

I will ship one from Timbuktu if I have to.......

cheers

Info ..
So.. whilst I appreciate these are rare.. can anyone tell me what differences there are between an early 499 and a 479cc engine...
I have seen the air cleaner is different but other than measuring the bore to check the volume...
are there any other visual differences....

I also believe that early cars had a 6 spline drive shaft with a 3 bolt coupling... what year was this introduced?

I am also after the vents that chanel air from the front panel into the car...

ahh so... the big box for the thermostat is a problem...
by the looks of things...
so I have the Air Filer housing and teh Thermostat housing as my biggest issues so far..

Not Timbuktu but I can tell you that there a couple of cars with those engines in the Horopito car wreckers yard in New Zealand (y)

There are always a few D's floating around New Zealand. Get in touch with John Collins of JC Automotive, he's a champion of the Fiat world in NZ. Otherwise keep an eye out on trademe.co.nz as there are a few popping up for sale on a regular basis. Horopito motors is a bit out of the way but if I am ever going up that way, probably won't until the new year but I would stop in and look around as I hear it's a playground for car lovers.
Hamish.
