My Motorhome is on a 3.0 160 chassis, I have owned from new built in 2007, it has covered only 6,000 miles with a full Fiat History.

The last service was carried out 50 miles ago but over 3 months in time, the vehicle is garaged but hasn't been driven since the service.

The battery is always kept charged, when I started it this morning it started perfectly but there was a noise which I can only describe as a dry bearing type of sound accompanying the engine sound, I let the engine warm and gently increased the revs to around 2500rpm with a few blips to 3000rpm, the noise was still there.

I am very puzzled, the noise seems to come from the drivers side of the engine.

Any ideas ?

Hi Dave, no the service was carried out at Desira Bury St Edmunds and was classed as a Gold Service with brake fluid change, Timing belt and water pump not changed.

I thought the 3.0 had timing chains, forgive me if I'm wrong

would the water pump be due for replacement after 5 years, would this make such a noise ?

"I have owned from new built in 2007, it has covered only 6,000 miles"

Perhaps that is the main cause of the problem. A mileage of 1,000 a year is not what these vehicles were designed for and can lead to problems. it could be the water pump bearing but could also be associated with the timing chain and tensioners. The alternator and power steering pump is also that side as is the ac compressor pump. The only way to get it diagnosed is for someone familiar with the engine to have a listen and try to narrow it down.

I haven't been very impressed with my local ( Norfolk, Cambridgeshire ) dealers, can anybody recommend a good dealer or Independent fairly local ?
