20v turbo coupe in my bravo

20v turbo coupe in my bravo

hlx conversion

Before you say anything Nige im not thinking of doing this ;) just curious.

Everyone says that its only possible to turbo the HGT engine, however fiat also make a 16 valve turbo. Would it be possible to fit that 16 valve engine to a hlx or other bravo model?

FAO: Rick

Forgot to mention this Rick sounds like you already know any way but Gaz said the main hassle would def be all the ECU/wiring. The words he used were. "the electiric will be a right bast!"£d" hehehe

Although its all Fiat built so you would think that alsot of the electrical connections would be interchangeable. What am I saying!!!! Fiat the company that use the same color wore for Pos and Neg!!!

Any way Rick your good with electirics so I have every faith in you.

ha!

im not bad with electics and can do wiring but would be a bit unsure about re-wiring an entire car! i really need to find someone with a coupe that i can crawl around in and investigate electrics properly.

does anyone know where the ecu is in the bravo? and in the coupe. will need to look at connections. if they look the same (i suspect they will) then it might be a straight swap out, hopefully.

FAO: Jon

J the 16v turbo is basicaly the same as the lanica inta. and If my memory serves me correctly the coupe 16v turbo uses the Tipo front end setup. I've got a mechanic bud with a 16v coupe so I'll ask him and I'll ask Gaz too what parts the 16v coupe Turbo uses.

It may be easier to fit the 16v T coupe lump as aposed to the 20V lump.

Will check tomorrow.

ECU

The ECU is positioned above the passenger footwell. You'll have to take the carpet stuff off the top and unscrew the grey plastic cover.

Re: FAO: Jon

Try www.fiatcoupe.net. I am pretty sure there is a guy on there who has done the job before. There is a good search engine which should help you find the right post.
Good luck.

coupe forum

thanks for suggesting the coupe forum, its quite useful although i cant find the person who has done the conversion. they did however point me to ca company called avanti motorsport who have done or know how to do this conversion.

if i pull it off i will have a bravo with about 230bhp and 250lbft torque (assuming mods and superchip) possibly even more! should get to 60 in about 5 seconds.

Re: coupe forum

I spoke to avanti a while ago and im pretty sure they said everything would fit no problem........except the intercooler.
Like you said there is room to fit it but plumbing it in is difficult - i think avanti suggested having a custom bonnet with a built in bulge (like the ecosse bonnets for the pugs)to give room for the pipes to come over the top of the engine to the intercooler

mariani 2.0HGT turbo conversion

Found this conversion kit on net costs £2200 +vat and poss import costs. comes with 5 branch manifold, pistons, rods, crank etc/. Would love to do this myself or help put coupe engine in (make mistakes on someone elses so I can do it right on mine!!)

MY CAR!!!

Right guys i havent read all of this so bare with me, a coupe engine wont go in my car as i have single point injection and anything bigger than a 1.4 has multi point, but thats just bravos, so how about anything else that is Fiat that moves like sh*t off a shovel and wont fall apart any time soon - or am I asking too much? My Dad says he is up for sponsering the transformation!!!! Please help!!!

Avanti

I have spoken to Avanti quite a bit, they have told me they could put in the 20V 2.0 turbo,

or they do a turbo kit for the entire fiat range, which works out about 3500 fitted. . .

i have to go down there in the next week or so to get some brake pads ( that is where i got my 4 pots n big disc conversion )

any thing you want me to ask in person?

fao allan wall

thanks allan, i would like to know if the ecu is a straight swap, you see i can get the complete front of a coupe so that will include the ecu. if the connections and wiring to the connections is the same in the coupe as in the bravo then im buying asap! my bravo is a 1997 HGT, so things like engine mounts and peripherals will be the same. im also going to transfer the brakes over so if they know anything about the hub and caliper connections that would be helpful.

im not to worried about the intercooler as i can get a custom sized jobbie that will fit in-front of the radiator and look really neat through the mesh. pipework can go through the sides of the radiator.

fianlly - boost gague. does the coupe have one and is it part of the ecu or do i have to pop in another set of wires?

thanks all

riclemus

p.s. nadine - what engine do you have at the moment? if its the 1.2 it might be the same as the punto engine and there is a turbo conversion avaliable for that.

2.0 20v conversion

i dont think there is any point doing this mod im all up for quick cars but you need rear or or whell drive unless you have the most bad arse diff and you will strugle like anything to get a front wheel drive car below 6 secounds 0-60 as i know of many tuned front drive cars and even at 10 of the best the quickest time was about 5.9 secounds on nuts up cars

dont get me wrong wonse rolling it will be good but i dont think it will be all as good as you are dreaming

thanks

thanks for the reply penfold and you have sort of answered a serious point.

my main reason for the mod is not to boost the 0-60 times because i know it wont be all that great. the main reason is the 30-100mph range as that is mostly where i will want to use the power and torque, so i do think it is worth doing, but i need to be sure it isnt going to cost the earth in wiring and electronics because that wouldnt be worth it.

cheers

Re: 2.0 20v conversion

Valid point about the traction.
How ever I reckon it will be just as good as rick is talking about.

A friend of mine has just bought a Mk 4 2L astra with a courtney afer market turbo. The Astra is running 270bhp and its superb. It gets the power down pretty well too. I would think that rickys car would end up something like this. For the amount of power and low ratio gearbox it has it gets the power down really well. He'll be doing 1/4 mile stuff this summer and it will be interesting to see what times he gets. I would think that it would be a similar drive to rickys car after the conversion.

Re: Re: 2.0 20v conversion

Hope they've fitted a new gearbox and driveshafts to that Astra......if not, torque will smash them to pieces if you do 1/4 mile sprints in it...... Better to stick to using all the power once you are actually underway, as it is a lot less harsh for the drivetrain that way.....

trans

i will be getting the whole front of the coupe so will have transmission and driveshafts designed for that power, so no problems hopefully. still having worries about wiring. contacted avanti motorsport who have done bits of this conversion before, but no the whole thing in one lump. they said you would need to do quite a lot of re-wiring. does anyone have a pic of the coupe's interior - particularly the indicator salks.

Fiat Marea Turbo = Fiat Bravo Turbo

hey dudes...we have already talked about this car..

just take a look at the engine bay.. and tell me it's not exactly the same as our beloved Bravo..

i think the turbo-solution will come from Brasil, not from Italy...

imp_mareat_400_02.jpg

the result... 182 HP... 27 kgm @6000 rpm
read portuguese info here: http://www.terra.com.br/carroonline/imp_mareat.htm

that figures are interesting..aren't they?

Re: Re: Re: 2.0 20v conversion

Loads of parts have been uprated when the astra was converted. Its done about 30,000 miles since so I'd say courtney have done a good job really.

Re: Fiat Marea Turbo = Fiat Bravo Turbo

Remember I mentioned a mechanic bud of mine has a 16v coupe.
The coupe 16v is basicaly the lancia inta engine.

Quite intresting this. We got his coupe and My bravo side by side last night and we had a really good look around both engine bays. All the engine mountings were in the same place and the engine would have fitted into my 1.6 engine bay.

Conclusion the coupe 16v lump both Turbo and non turbo will fit straight into the bravo 1.6 engine bay.

Not bad eh.
