Fitting the turbo

Not sure what the cost would be, but perhaps you could take it to a motorsport specialist. They build all sorts of cars, fit two engines in a car that should only have one etc...
I'm sure a job like this wouldn't take all that much work for a specialist - I'd guess you could get it done for £1000. Perhaps less if you get the engine in yourself and just leave the electrical bits.

Avanti

I went there today to get my brake pads,

asked him about engine swaps, and he said they could do it. he said as long as the wires havent been cut on the new engine a lot of them just have different connectors, etc, dunno how much he was just trying to waffle to me though. . . .

he said the 16v Turbo would be easier, but they are like Gold dust to find written off ones you can get the important bits from!

Re: Fitting the turbo

I was quoted 2000 for the 20v turbo fitting in to my Bravo 1.6 from ART If I supplied the engine. There would be alot of work envolved if it were fitted to mine. Obviously my engine bay is smaller than Riks HGT so it would cost more to fit the same engine into my car.

Plus the engine mountings will all be the same when swoping the 20v Turbo to the HGT. My engine mounting are in a different place.

I asked out of interest how much Tony @ Art would have done it for. I'll stick to my Nitrous. Going for a re-fill this weekend! I promised Kelly I wouldnt get a refill during my holiday/chritmas time off. so I haven't had any for about a month now. Feels more like a bloody year! hehe

Think i'm gonna start saving. .. .

After seeing a standard Fiat coupe blow away two cossies a couple of weekends ago i think after sorting a couple of small dents in my car i'm gonna not do anything else and start saving for the swap! ( hmmm, maybe time to get a second job again. . . and stop going out for a while. . . )

I seriously think after all the discussion some one has too do it. . . and think it will be amazing afterwards! its only money and you only live once afterall! hehe

think i'll not tell anyone local though, then turn up oneday and just stun some people!

Re: Think i'm gonna start saving. .. .

Hi Guys,

Wne to pick my new gearbox this weekend and guess what I saw???

The guys who owned the Fiat slavage yard in York had a Bravo with a fiat turbo plus lump in it!!!

The engine went staight in but they were having a few probs though I can't remember what with. Barry said that the loom would be the biggest pain in the arse.

I'm gonna give em a ring next month to see if they've finished.

Point been I've see the coupe engine in there with my own eyes!

Rivk have you done the brembo conversion yet?

HGT?

Proof it can be done! good good!

Did you notice if this was a HGT or a normal Bravo they were putting it in Rob?

and do you think they would do it again for some one else? if they've done one swap successfully i would be very interested to find out if/how much they would be willing to do another for?

Re: HGT?

It was a HGT they were putting it into Al.

I doubt It would go into our 16v engine bays as all the engine mounts are different so it would be a very difficult job to do. lots of cutting and shutting.

it Fit nice and snug into the HGT bay.

As for them doing the fitting?? hmmmm they are scrap dealers so I would imagine the oportunity to make some more tax free cash would be good for them!! hehe

Actually they were a really nice bunch not your usual scrap dealing ass's at all.
I'm gonna give them a ring in a week to see how they have got on so I'll askem if they are up for it then. (yard is in York by the way just of the A64 30mins form wakefield where I live)

cheers!

yeah, i thought a good scrappy always likes a good cash deal! hehe.

and i would rather let someone who has done a similiar swap have a go at it than some where like Avanti, who claim to have done bits of it but have nothing to show for it really. . . .

only prob would be whether they think they could do it into our engine bays. .

or whether they/we could manage to find a 16v Turbo to put in. . .

rob?

do you have the phone number of the scrapper who was doing it? and was it a 20v or a 16v going in?

im going to get eh brembo's off the coupe but i suspect there may be a problem with the mounts being off, unless they are bog standard brmebo calipers and a shift kit is avaliable for the bravo? i knwo the coupe has much bigger discs on the front than the bravo?

Re: rob?

as above rik its a coupe turbo plus

so thats a 20v turbo

I'm also thinking about the brembo conversion.

Me and Gaz are gonna go to the scrapper next weekend and see how much work will be involved when swopping the vented disks and brembo's from the coupe to my 16v.

should be able to do it I'll let you know how I get on.

but i want one!

holy shiznay, i havent bothered reading this post for a while as i didnt think anything would come of it but out of curiosity i cheked to see whats been goin on?
and yes it seems like a realistic mod!
so how much do you rekon the whole job would cost altogether??? if it costs under 4k i think im going to do it, the wat i see it- iwas looking to get a skyline r32 in about 12 months but what better then to have a bravo that is capable of 300bhp+ [with more mods!]
if this comes off im gonna have the bravo for track use only and ride my bike to uni!

Lancia Thema turbo

Try a phase one 2000cc 8V Turbo @ 165 bhp or phase two 16V Turbo @ 185 bhp or phase three 16V Turbo V.I.S @ 205 bhp.

It can be done.

the conversion costs vary depending on how much you want to do yourself. i was looking at buying the complete front half of a coupe 20v turbo including wiring, locks, keys etc. and i could get the parts for about £1500-2000. i can then do most of the mechanical work myself, just whatever problems come up with electrics may be the sumbling block. i suspect it will be fairly easy. only really a few connectors to worry about. so that means you could have a complete conversion for about £2500 (allowing extra money for replacing lost screws, cambelts, clutch, brake pads etc).

avanti can do wiring or seem to have done parts of the conversion, which surely means there is someone else in the country who has done it. only problem for me is that they are down near stonehenge and im in cumbria!

further than that!

I'm from down near Stone henge!

Avanti are a bit further, just past Glastonbury! in Street!

they did tell me once they would source and do conversion for about 3500? but that was quite a while ago!

how much 4 ur Gear box?

hello mate, iv gota bravo hgt and im in need of a gearbox, as mine is a tad ill, is ur gearbox from a 1st or 2nd genration bravo? mine is 1st genration(147bhp version)plus how much do you want 4 it? please txt or call me on 07905416594

not yet

im looking to do the conversion over the winter or if i get the cash during the summer so i will gladly sell you the gearbox but i will need it till then, anyway mine has 89,000 miles on it which is getting towards high! but if you want to wait thats great.

try www.1stchoiceonline.co.uk or www.1stchoicespares.co.uk (cant remember which it is) they find stuff in loads of scrappers and txt them to your mobile. i would think you can get one for about £150 (its the same box as the 1.6 uses and rob d had one replaced recently).
