So long as they have been serviced, oil-filter the engines seem to be incredibly reliable.

from personal experience I have found on cars with 70-80k miles
20V N/A; Thermostat, 1x coil pack, clutch, brakes.

20VT; dump valve, clutch, turbo-smoking, brakes
(my clutch and turbo only started to go after tuning, when kept stock, or these parts are renewed or uprated then everything is fine)

make sure both are serviced correctly and providentially.

cam belts, make sure there done every 3 years and 30-40k miles. make sure its done as a kit and all the other belts, water pump and all the tensioners are done

IF there has been a cam belt go in the past and its been subject to a top end rebuild make sure the bottom end has had new shell bearings as these tend to let go 10-20 k later

on the 20vt make sure it boosts and pulls smothly from cold, have the car running till the fans come on, turn car off for 10 and then restart it and blip the throttle, if it pufs blue smoke count on needed a recon turbo

if you can get a compresion test done, the 20vt should be 160psi a pot, more importantly make sure you get the same values accross the 5

after all said however, there a very strong blocks and well serviced should see 200k

cambelts are good for 50k/5 yrs, alternator belts are good for same but if you want to play it safe every 2 yrs/20k

they shouldnt drink that much oil ryan, i thought mine drinks oil, in 5 months iv used about a litre, thats 4k+ miles. (it does need a top up now mind but i aint got any oil left so it can stay low for a while lol)

but that is 10w60 oil!

mine could be slightly egsagurated (sp?) as my turbo just went but 1L to 600miles is the max the manual advises.

my driving style is far from relaxed as i've only managed about 500miles since the new engien went in (some of that was track time) so i'm not supprised i burnt so much, i expect it will be better with the new turbo on.

none the less, if you are going to drive it hard expect to be paying for oil.

Ry

My 20v uses a minimal amount of oil and will happily go through to each service, as Ry says the 20vT does use a little more I check mine weekly, when in use. ;)
