Hi all, bit desperate for some advice, I’ve just done head gasket on my daughters 2010 1.1panda, not a nice job, after putting it all back the car wouldn’t start, I didn’t mark the timing belt before removing, maybe nicked the timing out, I can’t find and marks for the crank or the cam, can anyone please help me out

There is a legacy mark on the crank but it's not in the same anymore, originally it was timed with piston one at top dead centre, when the compression was increased the timing was changed with the pistons halfway

There isn't one for the camshaft anymore

It's now timed via locking tools or you make your own marks before you take it apart

I wish I did now, need to find locking tools then?, I’ve lined old marks up on the crank but can’t find any on the cam

Yes

Top two if the camshaft pulley hasn't been undone

All three if it has

I’ve lined old marks up on the crank but can’t find any on the cam

Waste of time as the camshaft pulley isn't keyed anymore, so can fit in any position

Here's how I do it without undoing the pulley after a head gasket change

Maybe really silly question but if I get the locking tool, does it only fit one way ie if I’ve no belt on and I fit locking tool then both crank and cam would be set up ready for belt to go on

The lollipop crank only fits in one way, but you have to make sure the pip is located

The one camshafts tool fits two ways, the square cutout should be upwards

I assume by 2010 1.1 the value cover will have the little o rings, these and gasket will also need replacing

With both locked you can not fit the belt without undoing the pulley, just follow the instructions in the link I posted earlier, that my car correctly timed without undoing the pulley

I was just about to ask if that’s what it was I seen this on Amazon, is this the right oneView attachment 459066
Yes that's the minimum required as long as the pulley has never been undone

Seems a touch expensive, they are normally £12 ish

Seen them well under £10 occasionally but always out of stock

If the pulley been undone you need the extra bit in post 4

This square cutout has to at the top

This is my cylinder head, was being lazy and was going to pick up a random image from the internet, but the first one I found was the wrong way round, and before someone says it does not matter, 2:1 ratio yes it does
