Technical 2008 Ducato 2.2 100bhp Idle erratic when cold

Does anyone know where the lambda sensor is on this engine? I've had a look and cannot see it on exhaust system at all unless it's tucked away but cannot see any wires anywhere.

I had endless problems for 16 months with erratic idle, always told it was EGR valve, but fault code did not show on diagnostic equipment. Having left the van at my local dealer to fit a new clutch recently, they suspected a fuel pressure sensor. this does not show on any diagnostic kit, but once it was changed problem solved, now runs sweet as a nut.

An oscilloscope will tell you immediately though. It should be manditory kit for any mechanic. As an example my brother had his van into three different dealers who failed to diagnose it. One changed the crank sensor twice and charged for both! It was too far away for me to help so I emailed my father a crank sensor waveform and told him to put the oscilloscope on the crank sensor. One turn of the engine was all it took to discover that the crank sensor ring had one damaged tooth.

Has anyone solved this problem? My dads just brought a Ducato and his hunts when cold? Ino from experience the 2.2 transit engines suffer from scv and prv on the fuel rail failing if the ecu hasn't been updated. Ino he's planning on taking it to fiat for a service and to see if there's any updates available for it but it would nice to know if it's a common fault.
It's a 58 plate 2.2 100ps that's done 60k

Did this fault ever get solved because I have exactly the same problem.

hi all . I had the same problem with my 3L x250 along with others associated with water ingress it turned out to be the ( throttle control valve) that's to techno 100 check out the thread

OK Cheers for that will check out the post.
Did your van improve when warmed up as mine runs fine after about 10 minutes.

hi tribby . yes it did just check your throttle valve for water ingress first if its the same type as mine only 2 screws & you will see straight away any water damage

Many thanks Syldale. I will check this out. Not sure where its located or what it looks like but will do some google research before I start taking connecters off.
Cheers

I couldn't find it. Pretty dumb of me. I will start a new thread to see if any one has a photo of the 2.2 ducato engine bay and how to locate the throttle body.
Cheers

I'm looking at buying a 2.2 with the same problem . Be great to find the definitive cue . . Though reading the threads on this it could be a few things

Kingmonkey. I still havent found the answer to this yet but I have been using the van and it has not caused any other damage. It is a pain though as I try to keep the revs up with my foot on the accelerator when idling. Once warmed up it is fine.

I'm picking the van up on Saturday . . I know a couple of mates in the trade . . Will try and work through it with them over next few weeks .

only had mine a month, doing the idle thing intermittently, did it briefly this morning and engine management light came on,but went off after a few miles, going to look into the maf issue, out of intrest the 2.2 puma lumps used in all peugeot/fiat/citroen versions of this van,the ford transit and Land Rover defender ,now pror to owning my van i had a land rover so will ask in those groups if they have the same issue and can share any light on it

Quick update on mine . . Fitted a new fuel pressure sensor . . No change ? . I am using the van almost every day for the last week . . This has helped with the idling . But not solved it . . Not sure if of any relevance . But I had a reversing light fuse blow . . Changed that .lights working . But I did have a check engine light showing . . After 10 miles or so this went out . No idea if this had anything to do with the fuse . I didn't check for any codes .
