What is the official cambelt change interval? Just agreed to buy the above van, it's on 85k miles, but am not sure if it's been done already. There's stacks of paperwork, but I haven't looked through it yet. Just wondering how often it should be done?
Cheers

89hp 66kw dw10 rhy psa hdi engine rebadged as jtd for fiat ducato.

Very solid engine.

10years or 180,000kms according to continental. So it was due in 2016 if it hasn't been done it's 4years over due.

Check mot history on line to check mileage genuine

What is the correct engine oil capacity for the 2.0 JTD? Spec online says 4.5L, but I've seen mentions of 6L - 7L.

The van version may have a larger sump than a car version.
If you doing an oil change buy a 5litre container of oil that will at least get oil onto dipstick , possibly to the correct level then if you need more buy a further 1 litre .

My 2006 2.8JTD takes 5 litres, so anything over that would seem to be a lot, given the smaller engine size.

Need to grease up the gear linkages as well I think. Gear change is quite stiff. Especially 5th. Seen various comments about broken gearboxes, but it seems to operate fine, just a bit stiff to move. I'll try wd40 first to see if that temporarily smooths it out a bit, then some proper grease.

Also, I am seeing very conflicting views on the exact oil type online too. I saw lots of people suggesting 5w40 fully synthetic, but then some say 10w40 semi-synthetic...
Lots of reports of oil leaks on the 2.8jtd with 5w40, not sure about the 2.0jtd.

I don't understand that! Why do some report 5L fills theirs, but that states an awful lot more... I'll measure how much I drain out.
Good idea ,see where level is on dipstick drain oil , measure how much drained.

Do not over think it, the amount given for oil change always says somewhere that is a guide and to always respect the dipstick marks.

When you refill to between low and high marks on dipstick measure how much you put in and you will know for next time.

A service invoice from 2017 shows 5w40 oil being used, so do I stick to that? Or give 10w40 a go to be safer?

The same handbook (admittedly for the '05 model) already recommends synthetic based:

Synthetic-based oil, grade SAE 5W-40 that passes ACEA B4,
API CF and FIAT 9.55535 specifications

So either semi-synthetic or fully synthetic 5w40 to the correct spec?

That would depend on how you interpret "synthetic based" ;) (but I'd tend to agree with you).

As usual with FIAT, the recommended oil is a Selenia one (WR) and these are normally (at least for the newer engines) prohibitively expensive in the UK.

It is surprisingly as cheap as chips here, though:

...and buying a 5 + 2 litre (just to be safe), would take you over the free delivery price, I think.

(I must admit, I was surprised by the price, it isn't widely available, but might be a bit cheaper elsewhere).
