Hi there I have a 2004 fiat punto , the horn work intermittently, but has now stopped working completely , when pushed relay in fuse box clicks and have connected horn directly to battery , and that seem fine , also cleaned connectors to horn , not sure what else to check. Any help would be great :)

Check if power is arriving at the horn connections. If you dont have a meter just rig up a bulb with bits of wire and tape. Relays can click but not deliver the voltage if the contacts in the relay are dirty or the wiring between the relay and the horn is shot. Fuse is ok isn't it?

only way to fix this properly is to cut the spade terminals off the loom by the horn and either replace with new crimped terminals or good used ones from a different part of a scrapped car
this is one of the most common punto problems i find for mots no horn,i dont mess anymore i do as youve done confirm horn a worker and relay a worker and then cut cut

If the horn is working from the battery and the relay has been swapped then it has to be between the relay and the horn.Really need to check what's arriving at the horn.
Long shot but horns have internal contacts that wear out and can be adjusted with a little screw on the horn body - probably hidden under a blob of sealer.

Thanks for your replies , will cut connectors of and replace , see how it goes , will let u know
Thanks :)

Clicking is usually a good sign
It means the electromagnet has charged and actuated the switch inside

I might do a basic testing guide

Ziggy

hi ziggy a guide isnt needed
if you hear the relay clicking then the only bit left of the circuit is the wire from the relay to the horn to earth (the relay is next to the battery)
so unless the wires been cut the clicking confirms always bad connectors or failed horn

if relay doesnt click then its usually the clock spring on the steery wheel gone open circuit,or failed fuse or failed relay ,last 2 not usually

Hi again if there is a fault in the wires between the relay and the horn is there a way to rewire without pulling all wiring loom out

Hi again if there is a fault in the wires between the relay and the horn is there a way to rewire without pulling all wiring loom out

there wont be
the wires are very strong
ive had crossmembers into the engine and the looms still work perfectly here
just change the ends as youve confirmed horn works
the wires in the connecters go black with heat and age causing high resistance and so horn cant work, this is why you cut back a little from the connecter to get to good cable
if it was a ford you would be cutting back forever:D

Hi there I just discovered it a bad earth wire going to horn as when I connect purple wire to horn and earth to body work the horn works , would I be able to just connect a new earth wire to somewhere on car , would this be safe ,

The horn earth is inside the n/s wing and it's shared with the horn switch on the steering wheel so if the earth point was bad the relay wouldn't be pulling in in all probability. No harm opening it and cleaning anyway. Most likely the horn end connector on the earth wire is the problem as the man said.

Thanks for all your reply , now got it sorted , cut wires further back and now working fine
Thanks again
