Technical 2003 Ducato 2.0jtd gear cable adjustment

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice on how to set up the gear control cables on a 03 ducato 2.0jtd.

Have found loads of helpful info on the selector, but no info on how to set up the cables.

The van wouldn't go into gear so have cleaned and greased the selector on top of the gearbox, I can now select gears from underneath by moving the selector left/right up/down, and the van will drive if you get a low enough gear. But can only select a couple of gears with the gearstick and the all seem to be in the wrong place. The spring lock adjuster thing on the right hand cable was loose when I disconnected the cables underneath.

The van has been checked by a garage who are very keen to fit a recon box for the best part of a grand, so everything has been fiddled with.

Any advice appreciated!

freespirit posted it some time back you need to use shims to set it up, I used different sized spanners of the appropriate thickness to set mine. I tink this is the post, can't open the document on this computer:

Had a go at it today, but can't seem to find neutral? In what I thought was neutral if you turn one wheel in one direction the other wheel turns in the opposite direction. So you have one wheel going forward and the other reversing?

The other wheel may turn when they're both in the air with no force on them put it on the ground or get someone to hold it.
