Hi
My 150 t-jet is approaching it's 1st service. Hasn't done many miles (approx10,500). How much should i be looking to pay. I know that i don't need to go the main dealer anymore but just wanted to see what others had paid. Cheapest i found was just under 160 pounds from an independant company who will also collect and return my car as well as giving it a clean and hoover. I am in Berkshire if that helps, thanks in advance.(y)

1st Service is basically and oil change and check over, £160 is main dealer prices for that. Negotiated my 1st Service free when I bought my car. Independents should be able to do the Service for less than dealer prices, if you cant find a place to do it for less go to a main dealer IMO.... They can do the checks properly and look at certain issues Fiat may be aware of.

You may not need to go to a main dealer for the service , but on a brand new car it's worth doing for a couple of reasons.
Firstly they'll have better access to Fiat for any recalls or modifications that may need doing that an independant may not.
Secondly , if there *is* any warranty work that you need doing now or in the future you'll find it much easier if it's been to a dealer rather than indy garage. I know that the law is clear on this matter but not all dealers will play fair and the hassle isn't necessarily worth it.
Thirdly your resale value can be affected if it doesn't have dealer stamps in the service book. No matter how good the work was at an independent it can leave doubts in the mind of a potential buyer.

If you shop round you'll probably find a main dealer who'll get within twenty or thirty quid of a good independant garage's price and that's a tiny fraction of the total running costs of your car.

The dealer close to me quoted about £150 for a first service on a Multijet Bravo.

I know that the law is clear on this matter but not all dealers will play fair and the hassle isn't necessarily worth it. It is, dealer prices are way too high and dealers need a dose of Recession Reality. I have had no issues with Warranty work at all despite only my 1st Service being done at the Dealers, now done 48,000 reliable miles.

Also not really true, people buy with their hearts on condition and mileage these days, a dealer stamp really promises nothing more than a good V.A.T. registered Independent.

See notes in blue font above.

If you see below my signature there is a link to the main dealer service costs, have a look, there maybe a garage mentioned close by but it hasnt many entrys as it gets lost in all the other posts.

but your looking at the £160 mark for a 1st main dealer service.

You can legally take it anywhere and still maintain the warrenty conditions providing they stamp your book , do all the relevent checks and use fiat approved parts.

Just been quoted £250 for my first service (12 months/13k miles).(n)

Questions:

Is this too much and is the first service defo due after 12 months? My dealer is convincing

Try finding a good independent near you to ask for a quote, be sure to tell them what you want done, they should know the Fiat schedule and use equivalent quality parts & materials.

£149 from Rockingham Fiat, 9500 miles low mileage service at 1 year on my 1.9 Mjet 120.

and I thought petrols were supposed to be cheaper to service. I still think £250 notes is far too steep, but in my view I would rather pay dealer prices than go to an indie, saving say £100, in case I need to call upon Fiat's goodwill in the future. In my view (notwithstanding any arguements about quality of workmanship), I think its a false economy to save a few £'s at this stage of the cars life. Who would seriously pay the same price for 2 near identical cars, one serviced by a main dealer and the other always by a non franchisied dealer. Slightly off topic I know.

Just to clarify, Rockingham Cars is a franchised Fiat dealer. I qualified for a "Low mileage service", and the limit for that is 10k miles. I had the oil & filter changed, but not the pollen filter.

HI
i did my first " service" at 5000 km , meaning changing oil and a general look , cost me 60 €.
When i reach 15000 km i go again

I've done a bit of research today as our pair of MJ150 Sports are due their first service at 5000 and 9500 miles.

Pricing quoted follows:

Simonstone Bristol - £182 standard and £155 low mileage
Pewsham Garage (Chippenham) - £175 standard and £148 low mileage
Harry Dando's (Chipping Sodbury) - £132 low mileage
Motor Services (Chepstow) - £122 low mileage

The difference between standard and low mileage service is just the pollen filter which is £23.33 + VAT and the additional labour to fit it, so you can accurately guess the standard service price for Harry Dando's and Motor Services. Both types of service include oil and filter change and the usual checks so don't think you are skimping on these if you opt for the low mileage option. It all gets a bit more complicated when you have a DPF as the car tells you when the oil change is required.

Both cars were supplied by Pewsham Garage who ended up doing a deal for £109 for each (low mileage) service so you can guess where we're going (combining it with a family visit).

The two that stand out are Motor Services and Harry Dando's and both could both well be worth a look for anyone in the Bristol and surrounding area.

I understand that my local dealer's standard price for a 150 petrol serice is £313; outrageous. They claim it is a 'big' service ie new plugs and oil. Guess it is time to hunt around, shame there are so few main dealers around. Has anyone paid more?
