Re: 1993 Uno MKII - punto 1242cc conversion - MALTA
yes it used to be a 1.0 45hp carburated, dead standard....didnt even have a central console...
Mine looks clean and free from rust mainly because:
1 It sits in a garage next to a dehumidifier
2 Its not my everyday car anymore
3 when it used to be my everyday car i used to wipe it down everyday and cover it whenever possible
4 waxoil, waxoil, waxoil....you get the idea
UNO's used to be extremely common in Malta, they were one of the cheapest and most reliable cars that money could buy in the early 90's. Unfortunately many of them have succumbed to rust and carelessness and most are being or have been scrapped...
The car is now running a 1242cc punto 75 engine (which extenally looks exactly like the 999cc unit) however its been converted to use the Uno distributor and a weber 32/34 carb. Since the engine is sitting in an UNO and the car came without cat, it is perfectly legal to run this kind of setup. Its now pumping around 90-100hp, extremely easy to revv up an the weight is still less than 750Kg which makes the car very agile...
Moreover the lowered coils, gas shocks and widened tyres (195mm from the factory 135 or 145's) have made handling impeccable even though ride quality is crap
Brakes are from a brava; up to 257 mm from 225mm standard so they can stop the car in no time....
Been working on it for the past 3 Months, I would say an average of 15 hrs a week...but at least I'm happy with the results
