hello, I’ve just bought an ‘07 Diesel Multijet, it’s only done 75k but doesn’t pull particularly well. I’m no mechanic, but wondered what advice would be about a diesel flush?
Also, can anyone help with a)wheel centres like this, b) front fog lights c) passenger side sun visor, d) gear lever gaiter and e) is it possible to buy the original seat fabric anywhere?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi
Usual reason for lack of performance is Turbo actuator stuck. Often shows as noticeable power drop off at 3000 rpm, followed by limp mode until engine is restarted. Fairly straightforward to fix. Second favourite is the EGR being blocked in the open position. Less straightforward to fix, and you need small hands, long fingers and patience. Search on here for info on how to fix.

Wheel centres are getting rare, best bet is finding one in a breakers yard. Same for sun visor.
Front fog lights are still available, they were used on Fiats, Citroens, Peugeots and others. FIAT part number is 51782979.
Not aware of anywhere selling fabric though. Is your problem just the usual Driver's seat splits? If so, try to find a passenger seat with the same material and swap the base, back or both, as needed.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, very kind 👍

New old stock of the original seat coverings, and the foam inserts use to turn up on polish and Italian eBay a couple of years ago

Haven't looked recently

I gave up on the idea, the car cost £300 and as far as I remember it would cost £200 for the front seats only

As I use the car mainly by myself I swapped the worn drivers side parts with the passenger side

As per @irc

Seized actuator
EGR

Along with the small pipe under the turbo blocked

Are the most likely

But there are others, without an error code, check if the actuator moves freely followed by reading the live data, would be my first move

Check the turbo shaft for free play. There should be NONE AT ALL. A new turbo core is not silly money just take good care when you disassemble the old one.

Check the inlet manifold for soot and oil. Mine was almost clogged solid. I have no idea how the previous owner could even get out of his driveway.
When that happens they inlet manifold has to come off. Unfortunately access is terrible. If the engine id due to a timing belt, rockers and lifters, it is actually easier to take the engine and box out of the car.

Yes really. I used two ratchet straps and the jack to lower the lump onto a castor skate. It's a faff but its 10x easier than struggling to reach impossible bolts with engine in the car.

Due to my own stupid mistake** when I rebuilt my engine, I have done a top end job in the car and previously with engine out. Working in the car was an absolute nightmare.

** I rushed the rebuild and forgot to check for bent valves. Two were a tiny bit out and it developed the galloping starter noise. A stupid error, that I paid for with a second top end rebuild.

Re diesel flush many are not in favour, but personally I alway flush any old diesel vehicles I buy and then replenish with new oil and filter, I am not a fan of dirty oil.
If yours has been only pottering around town then as above and if it has a DPF then with warm engine at least half a tank of fuel an DPF cleaner additive in tank , a good blast up the dual carriageway at 2-3000rpm minimum for 30 miles will help once a month.
Basically small diesels are no good around town.
It may need another engine flush and new oil and filter afterwards if oil smells strongly of diesel or oil level rises!
